OCOEE – Ocoee residents with a taste for Mexican cuisine and spicy food will soon have a new dine-in restaurant to choose from.

The new restaurant, named 4 Locos Tacos, will be located on a 0.6-acre parcel at 101 W. Silver Star Road across the street from the Quadro shopping plaza.

Ocoee city leaders gave the thumbs up for the restaurant’s preliminary site plan and city staff is working with one of the restaurant owners on the future building design, which will be the first to adhere to the city’s new urban architectural standards.

Adrian Galvan, a co-owner of the soon-to-come Mexican taco shop, said the restaurant will be opening its first location in Winter Garden at 360 Plant Street but chose Ocoee for their second location.

“We’re going for an authentic Mexican feel,” Galvan said. “You know, right now when you go to a Mexican restaurant, it’s like the restaurant has lost that authentic Mexican flavor and authentic Mexican style on how to cook and serve the food. So what we’re going to do is focus on that, and tacos al pastor is going to be our main dish which we’re going to cook on a vertical grill.”

Tacos Al Pastor is a specialty dish with pork that is slowly cooked on a vertical grill with cilantro and onions. The cook then starts shedding the pork as it cooks and serves it to customers with handmade tortillas and their choice of salsa.

Galvan and his brothers grew up working in the restaurant business in their home country of Mexico, eventually working their way up from dishwashers to cooks. Galvan shared that he and his three other brothers thought of the name 4 Locos Tacos when they noticed how people looked at them as if they were crazy when they told others about their new business venture.

Galvan said the 3,234-square-foot restaurant will be able to seat about 150 guests. It will include an indoor and outdoor bar, as well as a covered outdoor seating area with space set aside for events and live entertainment.

Galvan expects to finish the permitting and design process for the restaurant in about two months and open January 2018.
