UPDATED: The rescheduled Dog Wash will be 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, in the Village Center.

The Baldwin Bark Charity Dog Wash had to shut down at about noon on Saturday because of rain that lingered throughout the weekend. But Baldwin Bark owner Ashley Liguori said they are working to reschedule the event for mid-November. Here's a message she sent to the Observer that thanks all of the folks who did come out to the event despite the downpour:

As you know, it was just such a wet messy day. We were heartbroken. We chose not to call off the event because we felt we had an obligation to Kids Beating Cancer as well as the many sponsors and vendors that partnered with us.

We hoped it would be a typical Florida rainy day and that we would at least get some breaks from the showers. As you know, that simply did not happen. By noon, we knew we had no choice but to shut everything down.

I must say, we were very touched by the many people who still came out in the rain. There were loads of volunteers. Each of them was soaked to the bone but wearing a smile on their face. And people still came out to get their dogs washed! They knew they weren't getting what they signed up for, but they came to show their support, give a donation and a much needed hug. It was inspiring.

But all is not lost. We are working very hard to rebuild our efforts and are in the process of picking a rain check date. It is likely going to be mid November but we have to work through the red tape first. I will be sure to keep you guys informed. Thank you so much for covering the event.

We were on track to once again double the number of people in attendance, which means double the awareness of the effects pediatric cancer has on the Central Florida Community. The children who are battling cancer have weathered many worse storms than the one we fought through on Saturday. Cancer does not stop for rain and neither will we!
