The Woman’s Club Woman’s Show is an annual event consisting of 20 to 24 vendors showcasing various products that will interest women of all ages. There are a wide variety of goods and services represented in the show. In the past, the event has featured jewelry, beauty products, art, plants, candles and unique gifts. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, at The Woman’s Club of Winter Park, located at 419 S. Interlachen Ave. in Winter Park. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted. Fort Stewart Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia, will be conducting its annual Retiree Appreciation Day on Saturday, Feb. 25, at the University of Central Florida’s CFE Arena/The Venue, located at 12777 N. Gemini Blvd. in Orlando from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. All retired soldiers and their family members are invited to attend this event, which will provide retired soldiers and their families the latest information on the current state of the Army, benefits and entitlements, and future outlook for defense programs supporting retirees and compensation. All military retirees from all branches of the military their families are invited to attend the RAD for information on federal/state legislation impacting retirees and their families. Are you a good neighbor? In memory of Fred Rogers of “Mister Roger’s Neighborhood,” WUCF TV and the Winter Park History Museum present the third annual “Be My Neighbor Day.” Beside enjoying family-friendly activities and learning about Rogers’ legacy, people will have a chance to hear Winter Park Mayor Steve Leary’s official proclamation to dedicate Feb. 25 as Be My Neighbor Day in Winter Park. Winter Park’s second annual Restore the Roar 2017 – Feast on the 50 is back, complete with food by Sonny’s BBQ, fireworks and live music by local band, Room 2. Brought to you by the WPHS Foundation, the city of Winter Park, Rollins College, Winter Park Pride and Orange County Public Schools, the feast has a fundraising goal of $500,000. First Baptist Church of Winter Park will dedicate their newly-renovated sanctuary at 1021 N. New York Ave. on Sunday, Feb. 19. The celebration service will begin at 10:30 a.m. (small groups begin at 9 a.m.). The public is invited to attend the dedication of this service-oriented church, nestled in historic Winter Park. Albin Polasek, founder of the Albin Polasek Museum and Sculpture Garden, believed that artists have a duty to preserve culturally significant events through their art. In this spirit, the museum will remember a local tragedy, which devastated and shocked the country: the Pulse nightclub shooting. Approaching the one-year anniversary of this horrific event, the museum has chosen to honor the victims by marking this date with a celebration of life, beauty, art and love through an exhibit titled “Summer of Love: Reflections on Pulse.” The museum says a resounding “yes” to diversity and invites the entire Central Florida community to keep love in your hearts and keep dancing! The Orlando Florida Writers Association presents “Advanced Book Marketing for the Savvy Author,” a talk by writer, speaker, and book coach Rik Feeney at the University Club in Winter Park on Wednesday, March 1, at 6:30 p.m. Knowing where to promote your work online is critical for success. In this talk, Feeney will show you easy-to-use strategies to integrate your offline and online marketing efforts, how to use Amazon to research pricing, cover design, and develop effective reviews, and, how and where to supply the appropriate metadata to make sure your book gets the notice it needs. Walk, run, bike, swim, strike a yoga pose – whatever the activity, Central Floridians are encouraged to add more movement into their lives. And with the “Move60 Challenge,” residents have more options to take healthy steps, while also having accountability, fun and be eligible for prizes. The AARP’s Driver Safety course, “SMART DRIVER”, will be offered from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, March 3, at One Senior Place, located at 715 Douglas Ave. in Altamonte Springs. Each year, the ArtEvents Council of The Friends of The Mennello Museum of American Art hosts an elegant gala to raise funds for The Mennello Museum. Funds raised from the gala directly supports exhibitions, education programs, publications and helps the museum achieve its mission to serve our community, support artists and advance American art and ideas across Central Florida and beyond. The 14th annual “An Evening with Fabulous Friends Gala” will take place on Saturday, March 4, at The Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World. In addition, all work in the inaugural Mennello Museum Invitational exhibition, on view at The Mennello Museum from Feb. 14 through March 3, will also be featured and available for purchase at the Gala. Back for its ninth year, the Fiddler’s Green 5K combines running and booze for the kind of race that will really get you motivated. This year, it’s also dog-friendly. Hosted by Fiddler’s Green Irish Pub, the proceeds go toward Habitat for Humanity of Winter Park-Maitland and the Conductive Education Center of Orlando. In “Strolling through the Bluegrass,” Vernon and Kitty McIntyre introduce bluegrass instruments and music through a display and discussion of unique collectible string instruments, by discussion of the bluegrass style and how it developed, with demonstration and performance on the instruments, and through hands on experience with real instruments that have been cut in half to reveal the internal structure. In celebration of Florida Bicycle Month, Winter Park’s Transportation Advisory Board and Healthy Central Florida are having a “Bike to Work Day” group bike ride and gathering. Participants are welcome to ride their bike to work if possible, but just bringing it for the group ride is fine too! The Winter Park Playhouse, Central Florida's only professional musical theatre, announces their 2017-2018 Mainstage Series of musical productions! “Anne Frank – A History for Today” tells the story of Anne Frank against the background of the Holocaust and World War II. It shows photographs of Anne Frank’s childhood in Frankfurt and in Amsterdam, and portrays the rise of the Nazis, the persecution of the Jews and the way the people responded to this. In a consequent way the exhibition shows the impact of the Nazi policy on one particular family. Throughout the exhibit, Anne’s own candid writing provides a central voice to the exhibit narrative, bringing a poignant and truly beautiful perspective to the story. MicheLee Puppets and Venue on the Lake are partnering up once again for a year’s worth of Sunday Family Fun Days in 2017. Sunday Family Fun Days will take place on the last Sunday of selected months at Venue on the Lake in Maitland, and will feature special guests, themed events, and puppet performances. MicheLee Puppets is Florida’s leader in educational puppetry and focuses on early childhood education, health and wellness, STEAM, and several other important issues. Each Sunday Family Fun Day will have a different theme that reflects these topics.
