JUNE 6

The Art & History Museums – Maitland will host an opening reception for the exhibition “Battlefield” from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 6, featuring musical performances by the Performing Arts of Maitland. Running from June 6 through Aug. 10, the exhibition explores relationships in the context of war and features artwork by André Smith, Kevin Haran, Steven Gregory and Ellen Susan. Join the Ladies’ Art Lounge on Friday, June 6, at 6 p.m. for an evening of friendship and creativity. In this class students will learn a fun and exciting technique to add texture and photographic processes into a mixed media masterpiece. Ladies’ Art Lounge is designed for women who want an evening out with friends where they can talk, have a glass of wine, and learn something new in a casual and fun atmosphere. Admission is $20 for A&H members an $25 for not-yet members. A cash wine bar is available. Outside alcohol is not permitted. Pre-registration is required. Enzian Theater is proud to present “A Mother’s Courage: Talking back to Autism” starting at noon on Saturday, June 7. The film is part of new series at the Enzian that bridges the gap between science and art. Each film will be preceded by a presentation from a notable expert from the world of science, technology, mathematics and medicine. The documentary by the Academy Award-nominated director Fridrik Thor Fridriksson and narrated by Academy Award-winning actress Kate Winslet follows the story of Margret, a mother who has done everything in her power to help her autistic son, Keli. Even if Margret holds no unrealistic expectations for Keli, she has the quenchless thirst for knowledge about the mysterious and complex condition that autism undeniably is. Along the way, Margret meets other families and hears their unique stories about how they too have been touched by autism. Get tickets at Enzian.org

The Winter Park Chamber of Commerce and Park Avenue Merchants Association invite you to experience the charm of Park Avenue at the Summer Sip, Shop & Stroll from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 12. Spend the evening on a unique wine walk and stroll to your favorite Park Avenue area shops and restaurants. Discover new merchants, check out the latest fashions, gift ideas, seasonal menu items and enjoy wine and hors d'oeuvres along the way. Attendees will receive their wine glass and passport at check-in. Guests must check in by 7 p.m. Must be 21 or older to attend. Please sip responsibly. Event is rain or shine, no refunds. The Art & History Musuems – Maitland and the Performing Arts of Maitland will host the Summer Concert in the Garden from 7 to 11 p.m. on Friday, June 13. The concert will be held on the second Friday of each month from May through September at the Maitland Art Center’s Main Garden. This Summer Concert in the Garden event features musical entertainment by Eugene Snowden & Friends and a reading by poet Stacy Barton. Admission to the concert series is a suggested donation of $5.

Friday Nights at the Morse continues from 4 to 8 p.m. every Friday for free. The Museum features a schedule of live music, art demonstrations, and special tours on selected evenings. The Museum invites the public to take advantage of these free opportunities to see permanent exhibitions as well as gallery updates. Come out to the Crosby YMCA in Winter Park every Thursday at 6 p.m. for exercise and advice at their eight-week Walk with a Doc program. Residents can get their health questions answered by Florida Hospital physicians and take a 30-minute walk to receive a prize.
