While it may be difficult to remember an Orlando before more than 20 high school football teams competed every Friday night, two of the earliest teams in Orlando’s history — Boone and Edgewater — began their famous “Battle of the Barrel” football rivalry in 1952. On Nov. 3 from 1 to 2 p.m. on 740 The Game, radio show host Roger Franklin Williams will commemorate the 60th anniversary of the famed rivalry with a special tribute to both teams on the inaugural show of the Old School Legacy Series Presented by United Legacy Bank. The radio show airs one week before the Nov. 9 matchup and will feature interviews with Boone and Edgewater greats from the six decades. The Holocaust Memorial Resource and Education Center will have the premiere of a new Readers Theater piece as part of its annual remembrance of Kristallnacht. On Sunday, Nov. 4, the drama “Witness” will be presented at 4 p.m. in the auditorium of the Jewish Community Center in Maitland. “Witness” tells the story of Kristallnacht, the night of Nov. 9 and 10, 1938, through the eyes and words of characters who were swept up in the chaos of the night. Celebrating their 40th anniversary, the Women's Executive Council will host their annual All That Jazz Wine & Dine Silent Auction on Nov. 7 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Woman's Club of Winter Park. The Albin Polasek Museum & Sculpture Gardens presents Ayako Yonetani at the Polasek exclusive Chamber Concert Series at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11; Sunday, Jan. 20; and Sunday, March 24. Dr. Ayako Yonetani, a world-renowned violinist, began playing at the age of 5 and made her solo debut at the age of 10. On Wednesday, Nov. 14, the Friends of Casa Feliz and the Winter Park Historical Association will sponsor “Winter Park and the Garden of Earthly Delights: Gilded Age Florida,” a program featuring historian Dr. Gary Mormino. Dr. Mormino, the Frank Duckwall Professor of History at the University of South Florida, will deliver the same lecture twice at Casa Feliz, once at 11:30 a.m. (part of the WPHA’s Brown Bag Lunch Series) and again at 5:30 p.m. (part of Casa Feliz’s Parlor Series). His presentation will focus on the various facets of daily life — food, housing, commerce, transportation, culture and external threats — for people settling in Winter Park in the 1880s. The third annual Winter Park Harvest Festival is Saturday, Nov. 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Throughout the day, a local producer-only market in Central Park’s West Meadow will offer festival-goers the chance to gather up all the ingredients to create a completely local Thanksgiving meal. The Tip-Off Classic Invitational high school basketball tournament will be held at the Winter Park High School Gymnasium, 2100 Summerfield Road, Winter Park. On Thursday, Nov. 29, from 6 to 8 p.m., the Cornell Fine Arts Museum at Rollins College will host the non-profit organization, i.F.r.o.g.s. (Indigenous Forest Research Organization for Global Sustainability) as they welcome the public to a beautiful charity event on the shores of Lake Virginia during sunset. The occasion is called "Wine and Cheese for Conservation" and it will raise funds for travel and supplies as an all-volunteer team of international scientists gears up for a humanitarian and conservation expedition to Madagascar in February. A lecture delivered by expedition leader Dr. Valerie C. Clark, and Rollins alumnus Clayton Ferrara will begin at 7 p.m. The event also includes a 50/50 raffle and silent auction featuring some amazing fossils, artifacts and adventures. The Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony in Winter Park will be Friday, Nov. 30, at 5:15 p.m. in Central Park. Lakemont Ave. every fourth Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Food Truck Crazy, promoters of Food Truck Wars and other food truck events, will feature 10 of Central Florida’s finest gourmet food trucks with cuisine choices ranging from Thai to veggie to desserts, and everything in between. The 41st Annual Florida Watercolor Society Exhibition will be held at the Mennello Museum of Art through Nov. 25. The display will feature 100 of the best paintings by Florida’s top watercolor artists. The Mennello Museum is located at 900 E. Princeton St. Orlando.
