Calling all former educators! The Centre for Aging and Wellness presents Dr. Kenneth Krumins, an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in arthroscopic knee surgery. On Friday, Feb. 3, Dr. Krumins will speak about the important role of bone health for total knee replacement and robotics. Blue Bamboo’s own founders Mark Piszczek and Chris Cortez will take the stage on Friday, Feb. 3, as Bamboo Philharmonic, a recreation of a group they were a part of in the ’80s. Bamboo Philharmonic will be performing mostly original music and will feature Piszczek on sax and oboe, Cortez on guitar, Ed Krout on piano, Doug Mathews on bass and Marc Clermont on drums. Arts for All Day is a new, must-see event for all Central Floridians with a focus of introducing new communities to local arts and cultural organizations throughout Central Florida. The event was created by United Arts of Central Florida and will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Loch Haven Cultural Park in Orlando. Arts for All Day is a free, family-friendly, taste-of-the-arts style event, taking place in Loch Haven’s multiple theaters and indoor and outdoor exhibit spaces, throughout the Mennello Museum of American Art, Orlando Museum of Art, Orlando Repertory Theatre, Orlando Science Center and Orlando Shakespeare Theater venues.

On Saturday, Feb. 4, the Dommerich Elementary PTA will host their ninth annual Chiefs on the Run 5K and Dommerich Dash. The family-friendly race will begin and end at Dommerich Elementary School, and a safe race route will extend through the Dommerich neighborhood in Maitland. Endurance Sports Timing will be the official timekeepers for the race. All registrants affiliated with an organization or school are encouraged to list the group’s name when registering online. The second annual Saturday Soup Sampler, presented by CSHD and Marc Monteson Promotions, will take place during Super Bowl weekend on Saturday, Feb. 4, from noon to 4 p.m. Enjoy sampling soups from a dozen eateries in the Canal Street Historic District in downtown New Smyrna Beach. 24 Hour Fitness landed in Winter Park at the recently renovated shopping center now called The Grove at Winter Park, bringing the physically active community a new fitness club. The inaugural Mennello Museum Invitational, a group exhibition at The Mennello Museum of American Art, will highlight new work by contemporary regional artists whose work enriches our community and our lives in Central Florida. This exhibition shares the work of local artists who call Orlando home with the goal of introducing their work to a broader audience and encouraging collecting art on a local level. Opening on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, this exhibition will be on view in the museum’s Marilyn Gallery, and will serve as a heart-filled embrace of our creative community. The public opening will be celebrated on Feb. 14 with an opening reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. It is a great opportunity to see work right out of the studios of Orlando talent, and on the occasion of Valentine’s Day, hug an artist! Now in its sixth year, the Rotary Club of Winter Park has established its Chili for Charity event as the premier chili cook-off event in Central Florida featuring creative chili dishes by popular restaurants and other contenders. All entries are served with a “Winter Park attitude.” Participants compete for the coveted Peoples’ Choice award and have their dishes evaluated by a select panel of judges. Guests also enjoy live entertainment. Drinks and a silent auction round out the evening at the Winter Park Farmers Market, located at 200 W. New England Ave. The event runs from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15. Net event proceeds will benefit the Rotary Club of Winter Park Charitable Foundation, which provides grants to more than 30 local charities each year. Deland-based entomologist John Serrao will be hosting “Our Amazing Arachnids – Florida’s Spiders and their Kin,” a presentation for the Orange Audubon Society that will show off many of Florida’s arachnid treasures. From the tiny “dewdrop spiders” to fishing spiders that can eat tree frogs, the presentation will talk about spiders of all shapes and sizes. The Orlando Museum of Art’s Council 101 presents the 35th annual Antiques Vintage & Garden Show, a three-day showcase featuring more than two-dozen antiques and vintage dealers from all over the nation. The Winter Park Playhouse, Central Florida's only professional musical theatre, announces their 2017-2018 Mainstage Series of musical productions! Current annual subscription renewals are going on now, new annual six-show series subscription sales begin Feb. 14 and "You Pick Three" mini-subscriptions, as well as single tickets, go on sale March 10. “Anne Frank – A History for Today” tells the story of Anne Frank against the background of the Holocaust and World War II. It shows photographs of Anne Frank’s childhood in Frankfurt and in Amsterdam, and portrays the rise of the Nazis, the persecution of the Jews and the way the people responded to this. In a consequent way the exhibition shows the impact of the Nazi policy on one particular family. Throughout the exhibit, Anne’s own candid writing provides a central voice to the exhibit narrative, bringing a poignant and truly beautiful perspective to the story. NAMI Greater Orlando is offering a free 12-session education program for family, partners, friends and significant others of adults living with mental illness. The course is designed to help all family members understand and support their loved one, while maintaining their own well-being. Taught by trained teachers with a loved one living with mental illness, this class includes information on illnesses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression and other mental health conditions. Learn the biology of the brain, information about medication and treatment options, communication and problem solving skills and self-care. MicheLee Puppets and Venue on the Lake are partnering up once again for a year’s worth of Sunday Family Fun Days in 2017. Sunday Family Fun Days will take place on the last Sunday of selected months at Venue on the Lake in Maitland, and will feature special guests, themed events, and puppet performances. MicheLee Puppets is Florida’s leader in educational puppetry and focuses on early childhood education, health and wellness, STEAM, and several other important issues. Each Sunday Family Fun Day will have a different theme that reflects these topics.
