Come out to Leu Gardens to learn more about Florida scrub jays on Thursday, Feb. 18, from 7 to 9 p.m. These birds are naturally very friendly and curious, but they are in serious trouble. Learn why their numbers are dropping, what is being done about it statewide and how you can help. The presentation will be given by Maria Zondervan, a wildlife biologist with the St. Johns River Water Management District. No reservations are required and there is no fee to attend. Hear the Winter Park City Commission candidates’ positions on the issues important to you at a debate from noon to 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 19, at the Winter Park Public Library, located at 460 E. Find great deals on Friday, Feb. 19, and Saturday, Feb. 20, when visiting Hannah’s Closet, located at the First United Methodist Church of Winter Park at 125 N. Interlachen Ave. Shoppers will find an assortment of old and new items, including clothes, shoes, furniture, books and movies. All proceeds will go toward supporting local charities serving women and children. The GFWC Oviedo Woman's Club is hosting its annual yard sale on Friday, Feb. 19, and Saturday, Feb. 20, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Oviedo Woman's Club, located at 414 King St. in Oviedo. It’s a night of comedy at the Henao Contemporary Center’s monthly third Saturday "Comedy Night at the Center.” It’s hosted by Sean Finnerty, semi-finalist in the 2014 Florida’s Funniest Comedian Competition and the 2014 Charleston Comedy Festival. The $10 door charge entitles all guests to free beer from Orlando Brewing. The historic Kummer-Kilbourne House in the heart of downtown Winter Park will celebrate its 100th birthday with a free and public open house on Saturday, Feb. 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Winter Park Mayor Steve Leary will issue a proclamation at 11 a.m. Visitors will be able to tour the property, which was purchased in 2012 by real estate investor and developer Allan Keen and his wife, Linda. The Keens meticulously restored it – retaining 90 percent of the existing craftsman-style bungalow and all of the walls. The original hardwood floors, fixtures like sinks and medicine cabinets, and even a concrete planter on the front porch, date back to 1916.

From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Woman’s Show of Winter Park will include over 20 vendors selling jewelry, candles, boutique items, spa and beauty products, art, fashion and purses. The Winter Park Institute at Rollins College will be hosting authors Bill Bryson. “Notes from All Over: An Evening with Bill Bryson” will take place on Monday, Feb. 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the Warden Arena in the Alfond Sports Center. Bring your treasures and almost-treasures so that Harry Rinker, a national antique and collectibles expert and host of the TV show “Collector Inspector,” can provide background information about your pieces and approximate values at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26, at the University Club of Winter Park, located at 841 N. Park Ave. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. and appraisals begin promptly at 1 p.m. Club members have priority and non-members will be admitted at 3 p.m. The costs for appraisals are $10 for one item or $25 for three items from the same person. The Scribes of Central Florida is proud to announce the return of Calligrafaire Festival on Saturday, Feb. 27, and Sunday, Feb. 28, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Maitland Civic Center – Venue on the Lake, located at 641 S. Maitland Ave. The free event features two days of calligraphy and related arts. Members will be demonstrating calligraphy and writing names on free bookmarks. Performing Arts of Maitland has three upcoming classes for “Creative Arts for Life” An eight-week Introductory Music Class for Seniors will start on Feb. 23, running from 11 a.m. to noon every Tuesday at the Maitland Civic Center, located at 641 S. Maitland Ave. Cost is $40. An eight-week Introductory Dance Class for Seniors will start on March 1, running from 9 to 11 a.m. every Tuesday at the Maitland Civic Center. Cost is $35. The Florida Blue Center in Winter Park will be hosting a series of free events over the next week. A Meet Your Neighborhood Nurse event will run from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Feb. 20. Members, meet 1-on-1 with your neighborhood nurse for a free Personal Health Assessment and you will receive a free gift! Free Spinal Screenings will provided on Tuesday, Feb. 23, from 10 a.m. to noon. Conversations with Care: Heart Healthy Living starts at noon on Tuesday, Feb. 23, where you can join your neighborhood nurses to learn ways to prevent and protect yourself from heart disease.
