DEC. 3

The Orange County Retired Educators Association will meet on Dec. 3 for the Sounds of the Season musical program presented by Orange County Public School students. The program will start at 10 a.m. at College Park United Methodist Church, located at 644 W. Princeton St. in Orlando. Anyone who has worked in education is invited to join. The city of Winter Park and the Morse Museum will present the 37th annual Christmas in the Park, which features the lighting of the century-old Tiffany windows in Central Park. The free event will run from 6:15 to 8 p.m. on Dec. 3 and will include an outdoor concert of holiday favorites by the Bach Festival Society Choir and Brass Ensemble. Meet new friends and enjoy fellowship as the Good Samaritan Society Kissimmee Village welcomes in the holiday spirit at the Lighting of the Nativity at 6 p.m. on Thursday. Dec. 3, at 4250 Village Drive in Kissimmee. The brief program will center on a life-size nativity and include a resident bell choir, followed by lighting the entire village in lights. DEC. 4

Winter Park’s annual tree lighting ceremony, presented by Winter Park Towers and hosted by the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce, will take place at 5:15 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4, in Central Park. The free event will be broadcast on WFTV channel 9 and will include performances by children’s choirs and activities for children. For more information call 407-644-8281.

Popcorn Flicks in the Park featuring “Home Alone” will be presented for free on Dec. 4 at Central Park’s Main Stage in Winter Park. The movie will run from 7 to 9 p.m. and free popcorn will be available for everyone. The event is presented by the Winter Park Community Redevelopment Agency and produced by Enzian Theater. One Senior Place will have a special service on Friday, Dec. 4, from 4 to 5 p.m. for a remembrance ceremony of that special someone that has passed away. One Senior Place looks to provide their community support during this holiday season and to share this time together to remember that special person and all the fine memories. DEC. 5

The Winter Park Chamber of Commerce and Leadership Winter Park Class 26 will present the 17th annual Leadership Winter Park Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, Dec. 5. Attendees can enjoy hot pancakes, sausage and beverages on Central Park’s Main Stage in Winter Park from 7 to 10:30 a.m. Cost is $6 and proceeds will benefit local elementary schools. At 9 a.m., the chamber will host the 63rd annual Winter Park “Ye Olde Hometown” Christmas Parade down Park Avenue. More than 100 bands, dance troupes, floats, local dignitaries and Santa will participate in Central Florida’s longest-running Christmas parade. The city of Maitland Leisure Services will present Season of Light at 5 p.m., with a fireworks finale scheduled at 7 p.m., on Dec. 5. A holiday tradition for the city, the event will take place at Lake Lily Park, located at 701 Lake Lily Drive.

The Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra will kick off the holiday season on Dec. 5 with the sixth annual WKMG News 6 Holiday Concert, benefiting the Salvation Army Angel Tree. The concert starts at 6 p.m. at Lake Eola Park. Bridgett Ellison and David Hall of the WKMG Morning Show will host the concert, which will be broadcast live on WKMG Local 6. All four orchestras of the FSYO will perform holiday classics, and Santa Claus will make a special appearance. Admission is free for all, but a monetary donation or unwrapped toy for the Salvation Army is encouraged.

DEC. 10

The Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center is hosting a free Brain Health: The Basics event, with an emphasis on maintaining brain health as we age. It’s from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Dec. 10, at Golden Pond Communities, 402 Lakeview Road in Winter Garden. Lunch is provided, and seating is limited. Fire Chief Jim White will speak as part of the free CoffeeTalk series, which gives the community the chance to interact with local leaders over a cup of coffee provided by Barnie’s Coffee Kitchen. The event will take place on Dec. 10 from 8 to 9 a.m. at the Winter Park Welcome Center, located at 151 W. Lyman Ave. in Winter Park. DEC. 11

Learn how to create holiday wreaths that can be hung on a door or wall or used as a table centerpiece from Cathey Bowers of the Winter Park Garden Club at 10 a.m. on Dec. 11. The demonstration will take place at the Winter Park Garden Club, located at 1300 S. Denning Drive in Winter Park. Greens will be provided. Admission is $25 and should be paid by Dec. 4. DEC. 12

The Orlando/Winter Park branch of the American Association of University Women will meet on Saturday, Dec. 12, at the First Congregational Church Fellowship Hall. Breakfast will be served at 9 a.m., followed by a seasonal choral presentation by the Winter Park High School Women’s Choir, under the direction of Joseph Kemper. Admission is $15. The Maitland Public Library will hold its annual outdoor holiday party from 2 to 4 p.m. on Dec. 12. The event will have music, traditional Jewish food, entertainment and a special guest from the North Pole who will give gifts to every child.

DEC. 13

The Church of the Good Shepherd, located at 331 Lake Ave. in Maitland, invites you to walk their campus and encounter nine live scenes related to the nativity of our Lord from 6 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 13. Join the Maitland Symphony orchestra for a joyful celebration of the December holidays as they present “Come Fly with Me,” a concert of music with newly written compositions and familiar Christmas melodies. The city of Winter Park’s annual holiday ice skating rink, Winter in the Park, will be open through Jan. 10. Presented by the Community Redevelopment Agency, the rink is located at 150 N. New York Ave. on the corner of New York Avenue and Morse Boulevard. Skating hours are 3 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 3 to 10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $12 for the day, including skate rental. Discounts are available for groups of 20 or more. The rink is also available for rental opportunities with a reservation.
