NOV. 12

“Charlotte’s Web” will be shown for free on Thursday, Nov. 12, in Central Park as part of Popcorn Flicks in the Park, presented by the Winter Park CRA and produced by the Enzian Theater. The movie will run from 7 to 9 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket, a picnic or snacks and friends and family. Free popcorn will be provided. For more information, call 407-629-0054.

The Winter Park Playhouse will run “Forever Plaid: Plaid Tidings” starting with a preview performance on Nov. 12 at 7:30 p.m. A holiday sequel to “Forever Plaid,” the show has the four Plaids returning to Earth once again with their four-part harmony and lovable personalities. After the preview, the show will run Nov. 13-22 and again Dec. 3-19. Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m., Thursday and Saturday afternoons at 2 p.m. and on select Wednesday, Friday and Sunday afternoons at 2 p.m. Tickets are $40 for evenings, $36 for senior evenings, $30 for matinees and $15 for students and industry professionals. Art Under the Stars proudly proclaims itself the only nighttime fine art festival in Florida. Featuring original art and artist-prepared lighting in all tents, the evenings in Maitland’s Lake Lily Park literally sparkle with nighttime magic. The 135 artists in attendance will compete for $26,000 in awards while exhibiting original works for purchase. Presented by the Maitland Rotary, hours are Nov. 13 from 6 to 10 p.m.; Nov. 14 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Nov. 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by Performing Arts of Maitland. The event is free and open to the public.

NOV. 14

The 42nd annual Great Day in the Country Arts & Crafts Festival is produced by the GFWC Oviedo Woman's Club, which was founded in 1906. Over the last decade the club has raised over $600,000 to promote the arts and to fund scholarships, community organizations, charities and projects. Last year they awarded over $80,000 from Great Day in the Country. Local schools received $16,000 for unfunded programs; $45,000 in grants was awarded to organizations who help women, families, children and senior citizens; and $18,000 in scholarships was awarded to graduating boys and girls from the local high schools as well as women returning to school. The festival, which is free to attendees, is on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Historic Lawton House and Lawton Elementary School in Oviedo, located at 200 W. The sixth annual Pumpkin Run 5K will take place on Nov. 14 at 7:30 a.m. at Mead Garden, located at 1500 S. Denning Drive in Winter Park. Saint Margaret Mary Catholic Church, St. Stephen Catholic Community and other friends of Haiti will sponsor the fundraiser, which benefits mission projects in Haiti. Participants can register online at Pumpkin5KRun.com, or on site the day of the race starting at 6:30 a.m. There will also be an after-race celebration with local sponsors and vendors. Entrance fees are $30 for adults, $20 for students and free for kids 9 and under with a registered adult. Prices rise to $35 after Nov. 9. Awards will be given to the top male and female runners and competitive walkers, along with the top three finishers in each age division. An anniversary party celebrating couples that have been married for 50-plus years starts at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Good Samaritan Society Kissimmee Village, located at 4250 Village Drive in Kissimmee. Reserve your seats and celebrate a lifetime together with live 1950s love songs, a delicious dinner and dancing. Winter Park’s Parks & Recreation Department will dedicate the pavilion at Shady Park in memory of the late Dr. Mitchell L. Dawkins Sr. on Nov. 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The ceremony will be held at the pavilion located on the corner of Pennsylvania and New England avenues, adjacent to the Winter Park Community Center, located at 721 W. New England Ave. Dr. Dawkins served as the pastor of the New Warner Chapel Primitive Baptist Church in Winter Park for more than 22 years. He and his wife, First Lady Melanie Y. Dawkins, have dedicated their lives to the betterment of the Hannibal Square neighborhood.

Keep Winter Park Beautiful will host a recycling education day on Sunday, Nov. 15, as sustainability students from Rollins College, members of the Rollins College EcoRollins Club, and Winter Park High School’s IDEAS4US chapter visit neighborhoods to distribute 10,000 door hangers provided by Waste Pro. Their objective is to reinforce the message that plastic bags and film are not recyclable in the city’s single-family, curbside recycling collection program. Plastic bags should be recycled at local retail locations, or better yet, residents are encouraged to use reusable cloth bags. This event will be held in unison with thousands of organizers across the country holding events to celebrate America Recycles Day, a national initiative of Keep America Beautiful. More than 150 of the world’s rarest, most exotic and sought-after automobiles and unique transportation vehicles will be on display at the 14th annual Winter Park Concours d’Elegance from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 15 at the Winter Park Country Club, located at 761 Old England Ave. Attendees enjoy close-up access to individual and group autos for viewing and exclusive photo opportunities. This year’s event has been expanded to include live entertainment, a hospitality village with premium food and beverage for purchase, the Classic Car Expo, the duPont REGISTRY Supercar Showcase, vintage motorcycle display and scheduled celebrity appearances. The Winter Park Chamber of Commerce and Winter Park Village are holding a fall-themed happy hour to fight hunger in the community on Thursday, Nov. 19, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. There will be live music from Emily Kopp, a photo booth, drinks and appetizers provided by Winter Park Village restaurants. All proceeds will benefit the Feed the Need campaign and Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. Tickets are $20 if registered at WinterPark.org or $25 at the door.

The city of Winter Park’s annual holiday ice skating rink, Winter in the Park, will open on Nov. 20 and continue through Jan. 10, 2016 with promotional giveaways on Nov. 21 and 22. Presented by the Community Redevelopment Agency, the rink is located at 150 N. New York Ave. on the corner of New York Avenue and Morse Boulevard. Skating hours are 3 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 3 to 10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $12 for the day, including skate rental. Discounts are available for groups of 20 or more. The rink is also available for rental opportunities with a reservation. Holiday movies, music and games will be offered throughout the event’s run.
