The clouds are parting for Cinco revelers to start partying Friday in Winter Park. As an unusual blast of cool air put a stop to a sweltering spring week, Cocina 214 began closing down Welbourne Avenue early this morning to prepare for a Cinco de Mayo street party this afternoon and evening.

It's Cocina 214's sixth anniversary. The restaurant opened on America's most-celebrated Mexican holiday in 2011, with the first of the restaurant's street parties.

"It's bigger every year," Cocina co-owner Lambrine Macejewski said.

Last year she estimates more than 1,200 people packed the street.

As a warm-up today, a Herradura live barrel painting demonstration will happen from noon to 2 p.m. inside Cocina 214. After that, the street party kicks off at 4 p.m. when the DJ fires up the music. From that point forward, it's giveaways, samplings and more, featuring Tito's Vodka, Herradura Tequila and Patron Tequila.

Take a look at their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Cocina214/photos/rpp.188926291134872/1631685583525595/?type=3&theater for more information and specials.

Between Friday and Sunday, the street will totally reconfigure for the annual Running of the Chihuahuas, blasting down Welbourne starting at 11 a.m. Sunday. That's when the block party and DJ start up too, with more samplings and giveaways while partygoers find out who has Florida's fastest chihuahua.

Anyone interested in registering their chihuahua for a $15 donation should go to www.cocina214.com/events
