Got big garbage?

The City of Winter Park continues its 2013 Fall Cleanup this week, with its refuse pickup service Waste Pro providing a bonus day for collecting old furniture, broken appliances and other bulky items. In order to ensure that items will be picked up, residents must place their items curbside after 5 p.m. on the evening before their second scheduled garbage and trash pickup day on their designated cleanup week. If you live south of the Fairbanks/Aloma Avenues corridor, your bonus pick-up day will be either Thursday, Nov. 14, or Friday, Nov. 15. The north pick-up days happened last week.

Filling the boot

Maitland Professional Fire Fighters Local 3590 will be “Filling the Boot” for the Muscular Dystrophy Association on Nov. 10 and 17 at the Publix Super Market at Maitland Place located at 242 N. Orlando Ave. Funds from the Fill the Boot campaign help support MDA clinics at Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando and Shands Hospital in Gainesville, as well as support the vital research trials taking place there. They also send local children with muscle diseases to MDA summer camp at Camp Thunderbird in Apopka for a week of barrier-free and lighthearted fun with other kids who are just like them and assist with repairs of wheelchairs, leg braces and other durable medical equipment.
