Ruth Phyllis King recently graduated from Valdosta State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. The Winter Park resident is one of more than 400 students recognized for meeting the qualifications for graduation during the summer 2013 commencement.

Fish without a license

Gov. Scott and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission announced that Oct. 12 visitors and residents are invited to partake in a saltwater license-free fishing day. On this day, the requirement to have a recreational saltwater fishing license is waived. All other regulations such as seasons, size limits and bag limits still apply on these license free days.

Blankets for the homeless

The Winter Park Sunday Running Group of the Orlando Runners Club will conduct its sixth annual drive to collect blankets for residents of the Men’s Pavilion at the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida. The main collection site will be Park Avenue and Welbourne Avenue at 6:30 a.m. on Nov. 3.
