Princeton’s top honor

Princeton senior Jake Nebel, from Winter Park, has been named a winner of the University’s 2012 Moses Taylor Pyne Honor Prize, the highest general distinction conferred on an undergraduate. The Pyne Honor Prize, established in 1921, is awarded to the senior who has most clearly manifested excellent scholarship, strength of character and effective leadership.

Free tax prep

Tax-Aide volunteers, trained and certified by the IRS, will provide free income tax assistance at the Winter Park Library every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from

11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through April 11. Individuals seeking assistance should bring pertinent tax documents such as a copy of last year’s income tax return; forms showing income earned, pensions and Social Security; 1099 Forms showing interest and dividends, photo ID of self, plus social security cards for all those listed on their return. Free electronic filing will be available.

Top-ranked Scouts

Four Winter Park Boy Scouts recently attained the rank of Eagle Scout. The young men have all been in the same Boy Scout Troop since they were in fifth grade, and three of them since kindergarten. Scouts Grant Barker, Patrick Burns and Sam Green are currently juniors at Winter Park High School. Scout Vince Falbo is now a junior at Bishop Moore Catholic High School.

Dean’s listers

Berklee College of Music announces that the following local students have earned placement on the Dean’s List for the fall semester of the 2012 academic year: Robbie Simmons and Drew Moore, both of Winter Park.

Villanova University named Wesleigh Donadio and Connor Branham, also both from Winter Park, to its Dean’s List.

Help save families

Speedy recoveries

Volunteer drivers are needed for the American Cancer Society’s Road to Recovery program. Every day thousands of cancer patients need a ride to treatment, but some may not have a way to get there. The American Cancer Society Road to Recovery program provides transportation to and from treatment for people who have cancer who do not have a ride or are unable to drive themselves. Rockin’ success

The Coalition for the Homeless raised more than $210,000 at the March 1 20th Anniversary Hearts of Gold event. A good time was had by all, and close to 1,400 people attended.

Music to their ears

Rollins College’s Dr. John V. Sinclair was among three distinguished alumni from William Jewell College honored at the college’s 69th annual Achievement Day. The Achievement Day honorees are recognized for their significant contributions in their respective fields. Sinclair serves as chair of the Department of Music and is the John M. Tiedtke Professor of Music at Rollins College.
