Stirring success

Private Wealth Management’s Shaken & Stirred high-stakes casino event at Orlando Mini on Oct. 12 was a successful benefit for New Hope for Kids.

Rolling to success

The Center for Independent Living (CIL) held its annual “Stroll ‘n’ Roll” event recently. More than 150 individuals with disabilities and their families and friends gathered to “stroll” and “roll” around Harbor Park at Lake Baldwin to raise awareness and more than $19,000 in funds for CIL. Special guest Rajesh Durbal (pictured), the first triple-amputee in the world to finish the Hawaiian Iron Man championships, was there to celebrate and support the cause.

Deliver a holiday meal

Jewish Family Services is looking for volunteers who want to get to know their neighbors by delivering a holiday meal on Wednesday, Nov. 21. For information contact Marni S. Winter Park looks for young artists

The Winter Park Chamber of Commerce is holding a competition for young artists to see whose holiday artwork will be displayed along Morse Boulevard. Vertically oriented entries are being accepted on white 8 _ by 11-inch construction paper, and can be sent to the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 280, Winter Park, FL 32790 or delivered to the Winter Park Welcome Center, 151 W. Lyman Ave., Winter Park, FL 32790, by Friday, Nov. 16. Awards will be given for age groups 0 to 7 and 8 to 13. Pink Out sets records

The city of Winter Park’s 2012 Pink Out Winter Park was record breaking. More than $25,000 was raised to help women in need, more than 5,000 flamingos flocked to the city, and on Sept. 9, the Guinness World Record for the most number of people standing on one leg was broken.

November is Florida Hospice Month

Governor Rick Scott has declared November Florida Hospice Month. This opportunity allows providers statewide to raise awareness about hospice in their community. To learn more about hospice and palliative care, visit FloridaHospices.org or call the consumer hotline at 800-282-6560.

Students count fruits

More than 700 students and staff at Park Maitland School participated in a week-long event to raise awareness for the importance and benefit of daily fruits and vegetables. All students and staff participated in a healthy competition by filling out fruit tally sheets from Oct. 22 to Oct. 29.

Weight Loss Study The Light Study, a clinical trial for a weight loss medication, is now enrolling patients in the Orlando area.
