CFE Arena celebrates a decade

University of Central Florida and Spectra by Comcast Spectacor, the providers of venue management at the CFE Arena, are marking 10 years since its opening in 2007 with a year-long celebration of special events and giveaways. Spectra will also show the history of CFE Arena via commemorative social media posts. Follow CFE Arena on Facebook (facebook.com/cfearena), Twitter (@CFEArena), and Instagram (@CFEArena). CFE Arena serves as the home for the UCF men’s and women’s basketball teams, as well as graduation ceremonies for UCF, surrounding colleges, and high schools. In addition, CFE Arena has hosted over 250 concerts, comedy shows, family events and speaking engagements, including performances from Reba McEntire, Cirque du Soleil, Sesame Street, Elton John, Lady Gaga, Tool, Drake, Carrie Underwood, Michael Bublé, Robin Williams, Bob Dylan, and Paul Simon, as well as speeches by former President Obama, former President Clinton and President Trump.

Call for artists

The call for artists is now open for First GREEN Bank’s annual Art of Medicine Gala, an event to benefit brain injury survivors and neurological research. The gala honors Dr. Cindy LaRoe, a survivor of a traumatic brain injury. Dr. LaRoe is also the wife of Ken LaRoe, founder of First GREEN Bank. The bank and The Art of Medicine Foundation invite healthcare professionals and brain injury survivors to submit artwork to be auctioned for charity in order to educate and inspire awareness about the impact brain injuries and other neurological disorders can have on those affected. Proceeds from the event will benefit the University of Florida Trauma, Concussion, and Sports Neurology Program. Artists selected to have their artwork included in the gala will receive two complimentary tickets to the event, which includes fine organic cuisine, wine and beer, and entertainment. Artists can submit their work at theartofmedicinefoundation.org.

Local luxury event supports Special Olympics

More than $1,000 was raised to benefit the Special Olympics last Thursday as the Alfond Inn hosted A Luxury Event of Art, Jewelry and Wine. A silent art auction featuring works by Louis Lochead allowed guests to contribute to the cause. The event was sponsored by Regal Real Estate Professionals/Christie’s International Real Estate, The Ledbetter Luxury Team, Stewart Title, Sihle Insurance Group, Megan’s Moving, MHM Professional Staging, and New American Funding.
