City earns award for cycle track

The city of Winter Park recently received the 2016 Urban Land Institute Trendsetter Award in recognition for its design and construction of the Cady Way Cycle Track. The cycle track is the result of a public/private partnership between the city of Winter Park, its Pedestrian & Bicycle and Keep Winter Park Beautiful & Sustainable Advisory Board, and the Winter Park Health Foundation. The cycle track encourages bicycling and safety by combining two bike lanes on one side of the street, separating them from traffic with a 2-foot buffer area and flexible vertical markers.

Central Florida Vocal Arts finds a partner

It is with great pride and gratitude that Central Florida Vocal Arts announces a venue partnership with The Woman’s Club of Winter Park for the calendar year of 2016. Forged by the efforts of Woman’s Club President Cynthia Gerken and Central Florida Vocal Arts’ Chief Executive Director Theresa Smith-Levin, this partnership is the first of its kind for both organizations. A 501c3 organization founded in 2012, Central Florida Vocal Arts is dedicated to music advocacy by providing performance opportunities to emerging singers, while exposing new audiences to a variety of vocal styles. The organization also provides the highest quality training to youth artists and for arts advocates of tomorrow. The Woman’s Club of Winter Park Inc. founded in 1915 is on the National Register of Historic Places. The clubhouse, built in 1921, underwent significant restoration in 2015. It is an event venue with a stage and offers a unique space for Central Florida Vocal Arts. As a 501c3 non-profit The Woman’s Club is pleased to share our space with such a prestigious organization.

The collaboration between The Woman’s Club and Central Florida Vocal Arts began over a proposed production for the Woman’s Club’s 101st Founder’s Day Celebration. Central Florida Vocal Arts was happy to direct and produce “The Wily Women of Winter Park,” utilizing the students of Central Florida Vocal Arts to highlight the accomplishments of historical women of Winter Park in January 2016. Stay tuned in 2016 for collaborations between these two charitable organizations who are working to make Winter Park a more musical and artistic place to live!
