Foundation awards donations, scholarship money

The Central Florida Hotel & Lodging Association Foundation announced a 10-year, $250,000 grant contribution to the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts at the CFHLA Cares Membership Luncheon last month. CFHLA also distributed grants to Orange County Public Schools, Osceola County Public Schools, Mid Florida Tech, Valencia College and the University of Central Florida Rosen College of Hospitality Management. The luncheon also featured the distribution of $100,000 in student scholarships to Central Florida hospitality students. For the first time in the Association’s history, CFHLA awarded a full-ride, $40,000 hospitality scholarship to Winter Park High School student Daniella Sauri, who will be attending the UCF Rosen College of Hospitality Management this fall.

Orange County Students recognized

Orange County Public Schools honored the three winners of the 2015 WalkSafe Statewide Poster Contest from Orange County last month. More than 20 students from nine OCPS elementary schools submitted entries in the poster contest. The winners are: Alyssa Witting from Lake George Elementary in the kindergarten to first grade category, Eva Robinson from Lake Sybelia Elementary in the second to third grade category, and Maddison Anneus from Lake Silver Elementary in the fourth to fifth grade category. WalkSafe is a three-day curriculum created by the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine that aims to decrease the number of children injured as pedestrians, increase physical activity, and encourage the use of walkable environments.
