Rollins’ Martin Luther King Jr. celebration included the memorial candlelight vigil, which began at 6:01 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17 in remembrance of when Dr. King lost his life.

The first Jacob Snyder Memorial Blood Drive was held Saturday, Jan. 15. Ninety-three people arrived to donate blood. Florida’s Blood Center collected 87 units. “The blood drive went very well, in my opinion,” said Jacob’s mom, Lisa Snyder. “Since the Florida Blood Center’s goal was to collect 74 units, the event can be pegged a great success!” The Orlando Rowing Club plans to make the drive an annual event.

Orange County Public Schools participated in RTC Entertainment “A Fighting Chance” production show, which focused heavily on anti-bullying, anti-drug and anti-violence themes and places an emphasis on choosing the right roads in life. Visit RTCEntertainment.com

On Saturday, Jan. 22, the Be Prepared: Boy Scouts of America Exhibition opened in the Maitland Art and History Center with memorabilia donated by Glen Lent and Lisa Vickers. This exhibit attracted Scouts of all ages, including Wolf Scout Avery Cuenin, 7, who was able to earn his Collecting Belt Loop. The Cuenin Family attended the opening of the exhibit with sons Adrien and Avery who are actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America.

Tax-Aide volunteers, trained and certified by the IRS, will provide free income tax assistance at 16 sites throughout the Orange and Seminole County area starting Wednesday, Feb. 2 through Monday, April 18.

The Florida-based law firm Broad and Cassel is pleased to announce that Keith White has been appointed by Governor Charlie Crist to the Ninth Judicial Circuit.
