Voter registration for the Winter Park and Maitland city elections closes Monday, Feb. 8. To register, visit http://election.dos.state.fl.us/pdf/webappform.pdf. Early voting begins Feb. 22 at the Supervisor of Elections Office, 119 W. Kaley Street, Orlando. There will be no early voting at the Winter Park Library this year. The last day to request an Absentee Ballot to be mailed to the voter is March 3. Election day is Tuesday, March 9.

The Maitland Area Chamber of Commerce recently hosted the grand opening and ribbon cutting for Mindful Body of Maitland, a yoga and wellness center featuring classes, events, workshops, retreats and camps for all ages.

NAI Realvest, a leading area commercial property leasing and brokerage firm, is now accepting applications for paid internship positions that will commence in January. Allie Schnacky, a fourth-grader at Sunset Park Elementary, is performing in "Broadway Favorites: A Musical Review" at the Theatre Downtown. Following Broadway Favorites, Allie will be performing with the Orlando Philharmonic in the French Opera, "Carmen" at the Bob Carr Center for Performing Arts.

As relief efforts continue in Haiti, Orlando hotelier and philanthropist Harris Rosen is continuing his local fundraising effort, having raised close to half of his $1 million goal for a long-term "Relief-Rebuild-Sustain" program. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has issued a Disaster Declaration to provide relief to Central Florida farms and growers whose crops have been damaged by recent freezing temperatures. Farms in all 67 Florida counties are now able to apply for low-interest Farm Service Agency emergency loans as well as grants available through the Supplemental Revenue Assistance Payments (SURE) Program.

Last week Maitland City Councilman Jeff Flowers of Flowers Labs was at the Chicago Forum of Environmental Lab Accreditation. He was awarded a certificate of appreciation for his past service and attended the ELAB meeting (he is the immediate past chair of ELAB) and the Accreditation Body Committee. His wife June conducted the Laboratory Accreditation System Committee meeting as she is its chair. "The world is safe for environmental laboratory accreditation," he said.
