Caroline Schumacher of Maitland was named to the University of Mary Washington's Dean's List for the spring 2010 semester.

Alexandra N. Mitchell of Maitland was recently recognized by Georgia Southern University on the university's spring 2010 Dean's List.

Emily Brennan of Maitland was named to the Honor List of Oxford College, the two-year liberal arts division of Emory University located in Oxford, Ga., for the 2010 spring semester.

Margaret Louise Harbison of Winter Park was listed on the Chancellor's Honor Roll at the University of Mississippi for the spring 2010 semester.

Gerhard Munster, founding publisher of the Observer weekly newspaper, is now a published novelist with the release of "Naomi of Nob Hill" by Bloomington, Indiana-based iUniverse. Munster launched the Winter Park Observer in 1988, expanded it to include Maitland in 1990 and sold the paper in 2007. His novel is available at Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com, Books a Million and other booksellers.

A recent report by Community College Week shows that Valencia Community College awards more associate degrees than any other two-year school in the nation. The Picture Frame Place along with the Maitland Area Chamber of Commerce hosted their grand opening/ribbon cutting this week. Those in attendance included Maitland Mayor Doug Kinson, Mary Hodge of the Maitland Area Chamber of Commerce, Master Framer/owner of The Picture Frame Place Susan Masters, and Secretary of the Chamber Board Pat Williamson.

During its annual Business Professionals of the Year Awards, the Rotary Club of Orlando recognizes outstanding business professionals for their impact to the local community via their work, ethics and dedication to philanthropy. This year, the Club honored two individuals — Katie Porta and John Rivers —for their commitment to the Central Florida community. Rivers owns 4Rivers Smokehouse in Winter Park.
