June 21, 14001 block of W. Colonial Drive: Around 9:50 a.m., a Winter Garden police officer responded to a call about a possible shoplifting. The officer was given the physical description of the suspected male shoplifter and informed the man had entered the store, walked down an aisle, selected a shaving kit worth $21.29, and then taken the item to a cashier. The man told the cashier he had already purchased the item and wanted to return it but did not have the receipt and had paid cash. The cashier then told the manager, who tried to look up the transaction with negative results. The suspect then asked for the item back claiming he would look for the receipt and exited the store. At 1:15 p.m. that same day, the man called Winter Garden police and said he wanted to turn himself in.
June 20, 3343 block of Daniels Road: Around 2:25 p.m., a law-enforcement officer responded to a chain department store in reference to a suspect inside the store who had stolen merchandise amounting to $1,327 from the business before. Once the suspect exited the store, he was immediately apprehended. The suspect did not have any merchandise in his possession, however, a subsequent search revealed a magnet device in his front pocket that is used to disable anti-shoplifting countermeasures. The man is a theft suspect for several different thefts from surrounding department stores. The man was charged with use of an anti-shoplifting control device and grand retail theft.
June 22, 10165 block of W. Colonial Drive: At 5:15 a.m., an Ocoee police officer on patrol conducting a security check of a shopping center witnessed an attempted burglary of a cell phone retail store while sitting in their car in a nearby parking lot. The officer observed a vehicle without any headlights on back up to the entrance of the store. Two males then exited the vehicle and attempted to gain entry into the store. The officer moved his car closer to the store to get a better look, but the minute the officer moved the suspects jumped back into the vehicle and fled. The officer pursued the fleeing vehicle, and the suspects’ car then crashed into a 'Closed Road' sign at Blackwood Avenue. The occupants then jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot, despite the officer’s commands to stop running. With the assistance of surrounding agencies and K9 units, the suspects were caught around 5 p.m. that same day. Three of the suspects were found in a pond and two suspects were found in a parking lot walking around without shirts and wet shoes.
June 18, 17100 block of W. Colonial Drive: At approximately 4 p.m., an officer responded to an area as a backup officer to assist another Oakland officer who had detained a man for urinating in a public parking lot with patrons present. The man reportedly had exposed his genitalia and urinated in the parking lot of a gas station for several minutes. The man was arrested and charged with indecent exposure, along with possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia that were discovered in his vehicle.
June 17, 415 block of E. 5th Avenue: Two Windermere police officers responded to the area of Lake Street Park in reference to reports about multiple individuals drinking alcohol and using drugs on the dock. Both officers exited their vehicles and noticed four individuals sitting at the end of the dock. Once they made contact with the group, the officers saw two empty beer cans located underneath a bench and detected the smell of cannabis in the group’s presence, despite the fact that all four individuals denied to having cannabis in their possession. The group did admit to having multiple beers in a backpack. All four individuals admitted to consuming alcohol while being under the age of 21.
