Silver Star Road and Taylor Street. Drunken driving. At about 9:45 p.m., an officer stopped a driver who had failed to stop at a stop sign. The driver admitted so and smelled like alcohol. The driver said he and a cousin had been at a Winter Garden restaurant before he headed to his brother's Ocoee home. At 10:02, the officer asked the driver to estimate the time without looking. The driver tried checking the center console clock and then said it was about 9 p.m. He said he had not drunk alcohol but pop with dinner, so he agreed to sobriety tests. He told the officer he had lost his right toes in a military incident and thus would struggle to balance. Meanwhile, the officer noticed a wet crotch stain on the driver. He attempted the walk-and-turn but lost balance after three steps, blaming it on his injury, so he asked to switch tests. The officer had him attempt the one-leg stand, but he could not balance more than two seconds on three tries, again blaming the injury. He said, "Let's try the walk again" and then tried to walk, once more losing balance after two steps. When asked, he admitted he had wet himself from a prostate issue. His blood alcohol content level registered at .106 at 11:17. While under arrest, he apologized and admitted to drinking 24 ounces of beer at his cousin's house.

MAY 9

Lady Avenue and Wurst Road. Drug possession. An officer stopped a car with dark window tint at 12:21 a.m. and then tested it, leading to a written warning for tint too dark. The officer received permission to search the vehicle, in which he found a crack rock weighing one half-gram. The driver admitted it was his but said he did not want his wife to know. When asked whether anything else was in the car, the driver mumbled while chewing and attempting to swallow something. The officer asked what it was, but he continued trying to swallow, so the officer grabbed the mouth to try to retrieve what was inside. The driver spit out what appeared to be minuscule bits of irretrievable crack, and he admitted he did so because he was afraid. The officer arrested the driver on cocaine possession and evidence destruction charges.

MAY 19

10500 block of West Colonial Drive. Theft. At 3:19 p.m., an officer responded to a big-box store about a theft in progress. A worker informed the officer a suspect had removed a knife from its packaging and then used it to remove a cell phone from its packaging before wrapping the phone in a red shirt from the boys' clothing section. He then removed the phone to put it in his pocket before reaching the exit, where he questioned an employee. The officer detained and arrested the suspect on a petit theft charge involving two folding knives ($14.92) and a $49.86 Android smartphone.
