The Winter Park Diamond Dawgs have won nine games in a row to leap to the top of the Florida Collegiate Summer League standings.

Their most recent win was a 9-3 blowout Monday night over the Orlando Mavericks. A five-run, five-hit rally in the fifth inning blew the score open, and the Mavericks couldn't catch up.

A massive string of big wins sends the Dawgs into the third week of the season three full games ahead of the second place Sanford River Rats.

That undefeated streak includes a three-game sweep of Deland last weekend when the Dawgs combined to outscore the Suns 15-2.

Much of that massive run support has come from shortstop Sam Kimmel, who maintains a .444 batting average after 10 games on the field. He's also picked up a save as a closer with a 3.86 ERA.

Four of the top 10 RBI getters in the league are in Winter Park jerseys.

Leading the way on the pitcher's mound, two Winter Park hurlers are in the top five in strikeouts. Tucker Donahue has 10 strikeouts in just eight innings. Chad Allen has 10 strikeouts in just 9.1 innings pitched, allowing only one walk.

After playing two games during press time, the Dawgs will be in Sanford at 7 p.m. Friday against the River Rats. They'll return home to host league bottom dweller DeLand at 7 p.m. Saturday.
