Summer sizzles on

With the official start to the summer season behind us, it’s time to enjoy some of the season’s outdoor activities. Take the family to a Winter Park Diamond Dawgs baseball game. Get up early for the Winter Park Farmers Market, which now offers locally grown, organic produce. Organize a relaxing trip on the chain of lakes aboard the Scenic Boat Tour.

Staying in town for the Fourth of July? Activities abound with the Hunter Vision Watermelon 5K Run/Walk. Track Shack has organized a run to celebrate Independence Day with fitness and fun beginning at 7 a.m. Stay on the Avenue for the city of Winter Park’s Olde Fashioned 4th of July Celebration from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Enjoy the kids’ bike parade from City Hall to Central Park, plus patriotic music, horse-drawn wagon rides, free hotdogs, watermelon and water – and tons of fun for all ages! Finally, cool off at the Winter Park Historical Museum and the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art, both of which are hosting free admission to patrons throughout the day.

Finally, mark your calendars for the annual Park Avenue Summer Sidewalk Sale. Stroll the Avenue for savings on fashions, gifts and more – up to 50 to 75 percent off. The sale runs July 10 through 13. For a complete list of stores, visit experienceparkavenue.com

Politics in the Park

Yard signs supporting a variety of candidates for elected office have started to spring up around town and candidates are refining their stump speeches, ordering their stickers and asking for your support. The Winter Park Chamber of Commerce will host the 2014 Winter Park Political Mingle presented by Bright House Networks on Wednesday, July 23, at the Rachel D. Murrah Civic Center. The event is the perfect opportunity to meet with many of the candidates running in fall’s hottest races all in one place. Come out for a delicious meal provided by The Meat House, get your questions answered and vote in a straw poll.

A list of confirmed candidates participating in the event, tickets for the evening and additional information can be found at winterpark.org
