Donate non perishables for ticket vouchers

NOV. 15

On Thursday, Nov. 15, from 7 to 9 a.m., donate 10 non-perishable, unexpired food items in exchange for a ticket voucher to “Built To Amaze!,” the 143rd Edition of The Greatest Show On Earth, at the Amway Center box office. Limit four vouchers per household.

New Hope for Kids will honor Children’s Grief Awareness Day on Thursday, Nov. 15, at their Center for Grieving Children in Maitland. They will offer an open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a blue ribbon tying ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Visit NewHopeForKids.org

Maitland Leisure Services Department will host a free Basketball Fundamentals/Skills Clinic at the Maitland Middle School gymnasium. Grade divisions will be split into two days to maximize time and hands-on instruction. First through fourth grades will be Thursday, Nov. 15, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Fifth through eigth grades will be Saturday, Nov. 17, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. To register, please call 407-539-0042.

NOV. 16

An ice-breaking ceremony to officially open Winter in the Park holiday ice skating rink will be Friday, Nov. 16, at 3 p.m. in Central Park West Meadow located at 150 N. New York Ave.

Three Orlando high school bands will perform in the 2012 Florida Blue Battle of the Bands — Evans High School, Jones High School and Edgewater High School — at the Amway Center on Friday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m. Tickets start at $15.75. Visit Ticketmaster.com

NOV. 17

The Art & History Museums – Maitland will host Family Days at the Museum on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 1 p.m. (and every third Saturday of the month), this time at the A&H’s Waterhouse Residence Museum. “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted” will be shown outdoors by the Orangewood Church and School on Nov. 17. Pre-show entertainment will start at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to bring chairs and blankets to the free screening. Visit OrangewoodMovieNight.com

Thursday, Nov. 15: There will be a 6:30 a.m. walk followed by a light breakfast. Then the LCC will host the Cultural Southern Cook meets Gluten-Free Cook at 7 p.m. Register.

Friday, Nov. 16: A free blood pressure check will be at 10 a.m.

Sunday, Nov. 18: LCC Poetry writing will be at 3:30 p.m. Register.

The library will be closed Wednesday, Nov. 21, at 4 p.m. until Friday, Nov. 23, for Thanksgiving.

Saturday, Nov. 24: Busting Holiday Stress Restored by Touch.com will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Register.

The Library hosts preschool story and craft time every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Baby time stories and activities are at 10:30 a.m. every Thursday. Reading Buddies for kindergarten through fifth grade is at 4 p.m. every Thursday. Legos Engineers for ages 9-14 is 4 p.m. Mondays.
