Local Special Olympics bowling team wraps successful season

The West Orange Renegades held their final practice of the season at Winter Garden Bowl Nov. 17.

WINTER GARDEN The West Orange Renegades, a local bowling team competing in the Special Olympics, concluded a successful 2016 season with a practice and awards ceremony Nov. 17 at Winter Garden Bowl.

The team welcomes in bowlers from around West Orange, across several different age groups.

From the Renegades, five bowlers are advancing to the Florida Special Olympics State Bowling Championships Dec. 2-3 at Boardwalk Bowl in Orlando. Tyler and Thomas Venkersammy are to compete as a doubles team and Taylor Simpson, Eileen Jefferson and Paris Yorke will compete as individuals.

The team is coached by Tammy and Bill Simpson. The Simpsons and the Renegades wish to extend their thanks to Jay Hess, the owner of Winter Garden Bowl, for his support of Special Olympics.
