The Oakland Police Department is currently investigating a series of recent thefts dating back from the end of October to last week.

Mail was stolen from a mailbox and water department drop box located at the town center circle on Tubb Street by Oakland Town Hall, according to a press release.

Anyone who has used these two receptacles to mail bills and have been notified their bills were not received, may be a victim of this scheme, Oakland police has warned. The department has knowledge of at least three instances in which victims’ checks were modified and cashed.

The department urges residents who may be a victim of check or money order fraud which relates to these drop boxes to contact Detective Brandon McDonnell. McDonnell can be reached at (407) 656-9797.

Oakland police believe the thefts from these two receptacles have ceased, and have stated it has identified the culprits. The department is now collaborating with the Winter Garden Police Department and US Postal Inspection Service in this case.
