James A. Bulger, 79, of Lambertville, N.J., died on Friday, April 14, 2017, at his home.

Born in Trenton, N.J., Jim was a lifelong resident of Lambertville. He was an educator and taught European history at Princeton High School and the Hun school before retiring in 1993. He graduated from Trenton Catholic High School and earned his undergraduate degree in history at Rutgers University in New Brunswick. As a Rotary International Fellow, he attended the University College in Cork, Ireland. Jim was the co-owner of the Swan Hotel and the owner of the Boat House, both in Lambertville. He loved history — European, American and local — and enjoyed spending time with friends and patrons at his establishments. He was an avid collector of fine art and a daily reader of the New York Times. Jim was a world traveler and had homes in Winter Park, Fla. and Dennis, Mass.

He was the husband of the late Diane Hamilton; the son of the late John J. and Florence Shoemaker Bulger; and the brother of the late Richard T. Bulger. Jim is survived by his brother and sister-in-law John and Margaret Bulger, of Yardley, Pa.; his nieces and nephews, Ann Minick (Raymond), of Doylestown, Pa., John Bulger, of Lambertville, Eileen Molloy (Michael), of Newtown, Pa., Kevin Bulger, of Carversville, Pa., Matthew Bulger and Anita Sands, of Yardley; his great-nieces, Abigail Bulger and Kaitlin Molloy; and his great-nephew, Patrick Molloy.

Funeral services will be private.
