SOUTH APOPKA The Wekiva Mustangs (3-2) have been putting the ball in the hands of running back Jaylon Fair plenty this fall and against Winter Park last week the talented senior exploded for four touchdowns in a 35-7 upset of the visiting Wildcats (3-2).

Fair totaled 116 yards on 18 carries on the night — good for an average of 6.4 yards per carry.

The big night continues a strong fall for Fair, who has had even bigger numbers, yardage-wise, in other games.

"He's been running hard since I've been here," head coach Rich Bedesem said. "This game was probably one of his lower (yardage) totals — he only had like 115 (yards) just because we had short fields."

Bedesem, in his first season leading the Mustangs coaching at Edgewater, expressed appreciation for the tenacity with which his star running back runs.

"He runs so hard and aggressive," Bedesem said. "He's just tough to tackle and he wears defenses down."

Q-AND-A

That was a pretty strong performance you turned in last week. How were you and your teammates feeling out there?

I mean, we were feeling pretty confident out there. ... I told (my teammates) that "if you all go out there and do what you got to do ... I'll do what I have to do."

With victory behind you, how excited are you to enter the district portion of your schedule and face rivals like Apopka, West Orange and Evans?

I'm really excited because I've been playing on this team for three years. I've played all of those teams. I'm a senior and I feel like I'm ready to go out there and put a win on the scoreboard.

What's your favorite subject during the school day?

My favorite subject is science — I like science a lot. I like to see new things.

What's your dream job?

Football is what I want to do, but I also want to go into business and do stuff like that.

What do you like to do with your downtime?

I rest, mostly.

What's something about you a lot of people don't know?

A lot of people think I'm a bully because of my size, but people don't know I'm a really nice guy.
