On Friday, Sept. 23, the Orange County Farm Bureau (OCFB) backed business development manager and Oakland resident Betsy VanderLey, who is one of two candidates left running for Orange County Commissioner District 1.

The bureau has been showing public support for candidates it’s judged to have the best interests in mind for Central Florida's agricultural workers.

"We've selected you as the candidate that would be best represent Orange County agriculture,” said Kathrein Markle, an OCFB Board Member.

The OCFB is part of Florida’s largest general agricultural organization, the Florida Farm Bureau. According to OCFB’s Facebook page, the Florida Farm Bureau has more than 140,000 member-families representing Farm Bureaus in 60 counties.

"Agriculture in Orange County has a significant impact on our local economy,” VanderLey said in a press release. “I am grateful to be supported by these hard working members of the agricultural community.”

VanderLey is running against Winter Garden Commissioner Robert “Bobby” Olszewski and both recently participated in a debate held at the Tiger Bay Club of Central Florida. The runoff election will take place Tuesday, Nov. 8.
