My country, 't was of thee?

Record high U.S. government spending borders on the insane, but the insanity gives a lot of people a mountain climber's peak-top high. The national debt is now beyond repaying. In its ever-growing need for income tax revenue, will the Executive Branch of our government resort to draconian measures to locate more taxable income?

I am a highly patriotic American. My history is simple: Born in Georgia 1921, grew up in Winter Park, Winter Park High School class of 1938, Harvard College class of 1942, U.S. Navy Gunnery Officer 1942-1946, opera singer and professor until 2005.

Lots of us who can remember the broadcasts that came across the ocean from beleaguered England back in the '30s may now be having a sense of deja vu. Could it be that President Obama will inveigle U.S. citizens to cough up private information about themselves and others?

Is Obama already, somewhere in his tome-like mega-bills, empowered to spy on details of our private doings? Does he keep a constant watch on our earnings, actions, sayings and even on our collective thoughts?

Does the government now have all the figures regarding our bank accounts, stocks and bonds, insurance, our automobiles, our houses, our travels — and every cent we have in the world? If we ever mistakenly misrepresent any of these holdings, could we be guilty of perjury and subject to penalties?

Would it be better to keep nothing private than to be caught concealing the truth?

Obama could well wait until after the November election to spring his distasteful surprises on a people accustomed to laissez-faire.

If, after November, he maintains his political clout, could he head up the Leftist government that he has had in mind from the beginning? Will he fulfill his longtime wish to "modernize" the U.S. Constitution?

Obama is clearly not "our kind of guy" — no Jimmy Stewart, likeable film-politician with a heart of pure gold.

In Obama's Chicago background lurks the shadows of George Soros and other Lefties who designed the blueprints for the America to come, after their covert takeover.

Back in the '30s, we were introduced to Goebbels' "Big Lie." You can hear it far-off as background music today. Was there ever a slicker liar than Obama? Obama has the chutzpah to repeat his lies ad infinitum, looking the public straight in the eye.

Techniques of the "power-hungry" have remained constant from the days of the Caesars, the Napoleons and the Henry VIIIs, to the Huey Longs, the Mayor Daleys and the Kennedys.

Obama is as headstrong, deliberate, unyielding and ruthlessly ambitious as any past leader who dictated his will to people longing to be led.

We look back in history and see the places where destructive leaders could have been stopped if there had been the time, place and collective will.

We may see the day when Obama cannot be elected "out" of office and where the White House could become his semi-permanent residence. The foregoing is not a prediction, but I do not regard it blithely as a paranoiac illusion. Do you?
