Florida Telecommunications Relay, Inc. (FTRI) provides free amplified telephones to the estimated three million Floridians with hearing loss, a common health concern for senior citizens. The Counsel for Caregivers will be hosting a Florida Hospital pharmacist presenting the “medication management and prescription interactions” seminar from 12:10-12:50 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16 at the downtown Orlando Public Library, 3rd Floor, Albertson Room. For five days only, the Orange County Government is opening up their tenant-based rental assistance (HOME TBRA) waitlist for low-income seniors (age 62 and over) or individuals with disabilities who are “head of the household”. A training session for becoming a master trainer for the Chronic Disease Self Management Program / Tomando Control de su Salud will be held at the Florida Hospital in Winter Park from Monday, Dec. 13 through Saturday, Dec. 18. The training, which is taught in English and Spanish, is normally $1,500 per person, but is being offered at no cost, thanks to the Florida Department of Elder Affairs. www.SuperAgers.com is a new website featuring news from the Einstein Institute for Aging Research, which is studying the genetics of people who have achieved extraordinary old age. The site includes profiles of remarkable centenarians.
