Learn the newest trends and must-haves for building your versatile spring wardrobe at the Jewish Pavilion's upcoming event at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10 at Bloomingdales Orlando. Personal Shopper Audrey Meyers will present "Spring Wardrobing and Accessorizing Showcase". It is $18 per person. Mimosas and light breakfast bites will be served. The National Council on Aging is hosting "A Look Within: What to Know, What to Do, What to Ask" event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13 at the Renaissance Senior Center, 3800 S. Econlockhatchee Trail in Orlando. Call 407-254-9078. Activities provided will include family/personal history evaluation, heart rhythm screening, blood pressure screening and edema screening.

You're invited to learn more about proposed changes in Medicare and Social Security on Feb. 11 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Renaissance Senior Center from Laura Feldman, National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare. For info, call 407-836-6563.

More than 90,000 Medicare beneficiaries in Florida are likely eligible for, but not enrolled in, Medicare's Low-Income Subsidy. The Florida Dept of Elder Affairs has a "Medicare Beneficiary Outreach and Assistance grant to help residents understand and apply for the Low-Income Subsidy. Dial "2-1-1" for more info.

The National Legal Resource Center has a new Web site, www.nlrc.aoa.gov , that provides legal resources for seniors.

The 2009 HBO special entitled "The Alzheimer's Project" can now be viewed FREE at www.hbo.com/alzheimers . There are also 15 supplemental films posted for your viewing.

Orange County Veterans Services assists veterans and their dependents in filing claims to the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs for compensation, medical treatment and other benefits. It's free! Their efforts helped veterans and their dependents receive a collective $32 million in benefits last fiscal year. Call 407-836-8990.

Did you know … A new "dementia risk index" can accurately predict which seniors will develop dementia within six years? Of the 3,375 survey participants, 14 percent developed dementia during the six-year study: 56 percent of participants with high scores on the 15-point index developed dementia, versus 23 percent with mid-range scores and 4 percent with low scores.

Nominations are now being accepted in the search for America's Outstanding Oldest Worker. The search is part of a national effort to raise awareness about the contributions older individuals make in today's workplace and to break down barriers often associated with their employment. America's Outstanding Oldest Worker nominees must be 100 years of age or older, currently employed, working at least 20 hours each week for pay and involved in his or her community. The Beth Am Choir dazzled the residents at Horizon Bay with their first musical performance outside of the synagogue recently. It was coordinated by the Jewish Pavilion. The next Jewish music program is scheduled at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21 at Horizon Bay, 217 Boston Avenue in Altamonte Springs.
