Sports Spotlight - West Orange Times & Observer: Ryan Allen

Seven-year-old Ryan Allen is a jack of all trades in the sports world at Jim Beech Recreation Center — he plays basketball, baseball, soccer and football.

Spring Lake Elementary second-grader Ryan Allen has been playing basketball and numerous other sports at the Jim Beech Recreation Center in Ocoee for three years now. As part of the City of Ocoee’s Youth Basketball League, he plays for his team, the Fire, and his coaches say he’s always positive, energetic and a hard worker. 

 

What do you like the most about basketball?

Making a basket! 

What advice would you give a new teammate?

Do your best and try to make the basket. 

What are some things you’ve learned here about basketball?

Trying not to double dribble, teamwork and leadership.

What’s the hardest part of playing basketball?

Trying to get the ball to my teammates.

Why did you pick No. 99 for your jersey?

Because it’s my favorite number, and it’s the highest you can go.

Do you play any other sports?

Baseball, soccer and football.

What do you like to do besides basketball?

I like to run around with my friends, play tag and play football and basketball video games on Xbox.

What’s your favorite food?

Pizza! Pepperoni and sausage is my favorite.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you like to go?

China, because of the sculptures and the Great Wall of China.

Do you have any pets at home?

Yes, Skittles the cat and Champ the dog. 

What is your favorite school subject?

P.E. I’m the fourth fastest in second grade.

Do you have a favorite season?

Winter, because it doesn’t snow here but gets kind of cold sometimes.

Do you watch any professional sports?

I usually watch baseball. I like the Cubs and Anthony Rizzo.
