In 1968, Lake Apopka was a popular place to be. A sailing classic was held annually on the waters, and people from all over Florida flocked to Winter Garden with their sailboats in tow to participate in the event.
A photograph in a 1968 issue of the West Orange Times & Observer (then called Winter Garden Times) captured a field full of vehicles, boaters and sightseers.
