Two die in Windermere house fire

A 72-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman died in a house fire at 1004 Main St., Windermere.

WINDERMERE A 72-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman died in a house fire in the town of Windermere this morning.

According to Windermere Police Department reports, two officers arrived at the home at 1004 Main St., Windermere, at 12:46 a.m. Saturday, May 20. The residence was engulfed in flames. The officers attempted to enter the home by breaking a rear window; however, they could not gain entry.

Firefighters from the Ocoee Fire Department and Orange County Fire Rescue also responded and extinguished the fire. The scene is still active, and Ocoee officials are monitoring the structure.

The two residents — identified as Ken and Susan Ward — were located inside the home. There is no indication of foul play. 

"Please keep the families in your thoughts and prayers," Windermere Police Chief Dave Ogden said.

A standard death investigation, conducted by local and state fire marshals and police detectives, is underway.
