LAKE BUTLER Olympia High rising senior quarterback Joe Milton has decided he sees himself wearing maize and blue in the future.

Milton announced his college commitment Sunday via a YouTube video. In it, Milton announced his commitment to the University of Michigan over other suitors including Tennessee, Florida and Georgia.

Milton, a 6'6" standout that is rated a four-star prospect by 24/7 Sports, is sought after for his athleticism and strong arm, among other things.

Two days later before the start of a spring practice session on campus at Olympia, the rising senior described feeling a mixture of excitement about his decision and relief to be able to focus back in on the Titans and his studies.

“I feel great about it … I just thank the coaches from Michigan to even offer me a scholarship," Milton said. "Right now, I feel relief, just to focus on school."

As for what set the Wolverines apart in a crowded field of elite programs seeking his services, Milton referenced Michigan's coaching staff — especially head coach Jim Harbaugh.

“There’s not that many head coaches out there that is a quarterback guy that is going to put the quarterback in the right situation," Milton said. "I just feel that Michigan was the best fit for me, from a quarterback standpoint, because you have two quarterback coaches that have been in the NFL and, that also played quarterback."

Before he joins the Wolverines, though, Milton has one last season ahead of him at Olympia and — after helping to lead the Titans to the playoffs in 2016 — he is hopeful that he can quarterback this 2017 team to new heights.

“I’m excited," Milton said. "I think that I’m going to put the guys in the right situation to win states and I think that we have a chance to win states."

Milton and the Olympia Titans will travel to Boone High May 17 for their spring game, with kickoff at 7 p.m.
