Winter Garden’s Robert Palmer Howard Jr. poses with actor Jimmy Stewart when both were serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. The Howards, with their four children, lived on North Dillard Street. (Their son George Morgan Howard operated a dairy on State Road 50 until the late 1960s.) Thanks to Robert’s nephew, Robert “Robin” Lawrence Smith III, for sharing this photo with WGHF.

The Winter Garden Heritage Foundation, which seeks to preserve our heritage and architecture while creating new cultural experiences, is celebrating its third decade with the debut of its new History Research and Education Center.
