Through 10 games, the Wildcats were never defeated in the regular season. Now they’re going to have to keep that streak to win it all.

Winter Park enters the football playoff season this week coming off one of the team’s greatest single season performances of all time.

On Nov. 12, they put the finishing touches on a regular season in which they went 10-0, beating Wekiva 42-27.

And Sam Richardson showed why he’s the school’s top gun, firing off his best passing game of the season, picking up 355 yards in the air alone en route to five touchdown bombs that kept the Wildcats ahead of the Mustangs for the entire game.

D’Vario Montgomery would be his favorite target for the night, picking up passing touchdowns that would start and end the Wildcats’ offensive onslaught.

Now the playoffs are coming, and the Wildcats have a distinct advantage — they get to play at home. In the first round, they’ll face a Lake Brantley team that finished runner up in their district, going 7-2 on the season.

But the Patriots have something in common with the Wildcats: Streaking. They’ve won their last three games, including their most recent, a 55-21 blowout of Hagerty to cap off the season.

These two teams have a history as well. Last season, they turned a regional quarterfinal game into an offensive slugfest, with the Wildcats barely escaping with a 50-47 victory.

They’ll have their rematch at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Edgewater

J.B. Woodman’s arm turned into a cannon on Nov. 12, launching the ball for 298 yards passing in a 34-14 downing of Boone in the “Battle for the Barrel” in its 59th year.

The Eagles’ quarterback took command of an offense he’d helped craft over the course of Edgewater’s 7-3 season, throwing for three touchdowns in the first half. That was part of an initial offensive attack that saw the Eagles pick up four unanswered touchdowns before the Braves finally scored in the third quarter.

The Eagles will hope to keep their momentum going into the playoffs. They’ll host Lakeland’s Kathleen High Friday night. The Red Devils have been on a skid as they make their way into the playoffs. Three of the team’s four losses this season have come in the past four games.

That game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
