Please note: As of Monday, March 2, 2015, the city was notified that Sentio Investments LLC has withdrawn their application for the proposed assisted living community on the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church site located at 1500 S. Orlando Ave.

March 9 City Commission meeting

There will be a City Commission meeting Monday, March 9, at 3:30 p.m., in City Hall Commission Chambers located at 401 S. Park Ave. For the most up-to-date agenda, please visit cityofwinterpark.org under What’s New. Below are a few topics of interest:

Public Hearings

• Request of Winter Park Real Estate Advisors Inc.:

— To amend the conditional use approval previously granted at 125 S. Interlachen Ave., to allow for modifications to the approved multi-family project to be composed of six units, three stories and 20,542 square feet of residential living area with parking in the basement level below the project, on property zoned R-4.

• Second reading of the ordinance vacating and abandoning the portion of Kindel Avenue between Benjamin Avenue and Lewis Drive within the Ravaudage Planned Development and Home Acres Subdivision area.

• Request of the city of Winter Park for the property at 2908 Temple Trail:

— Second reading of the ordinance changing the Future Land Use Designation of Single Family Residential to Open Space and Recreation

— Second reading of the ordinance changing the zoning of Single Family District to Parks and Recreation District.

• First reading of the ordinance annexing 1802 Stonehurst Road

• First reading of the ordinance annexing a portion of the Howell Branch right of way from 1620 Howell Branch Road, east to the city limits.

Park Avenue closed Sunday, March 8, noon to 4 p.m.

The 36th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade will make its way down Park Avenue Sunday, March 8, beginning at 2 p.m.

Park Avenue will be closed to traffic from Webster to Comstock avenues from noon until 4 p.m. Side streets will also be closed at the Park Avenue intersections along the parade route beginning at 1:30 p.m. In addition, New York Avenue will be closed between Canton and Webster avenues for parade staging.

Please make note of these road closures prior to traveling around downtown Winter Park Sunday, March 8. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and continued support of Winter Park’s community events.

In addition, SunRail will be operating free service for the Orlando City Soccer season opener in downtown Orlando, which coincides with the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Spring Pops Concert

On Sunday, March 15, from 6 to 8 p.m., the city of Winter Park will proudly host the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra as they present Spring Pops “Voices of Spring” in charming Central Park in downtown Winter Park. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy an evening of heart-warming music under the stars. This wonderful performance is made possible by a generous grant from the Charlotte Julia Hollander Trust. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, please call 407-599-3506.

City celebrates Florida Bike Month

In support of March as Florida Bicycle Month and in celebration of “Bike to Work Day,” Winter Park’s Pedestrian & Bicycle Advisory Board presents a Group Bike Ride & Gathering, Wednesday, March 11. Riders are encouraged to gather for the group ride at 3:30 p.m. on Garfield Avenue directly behind the main stage in Central Park. The group ride, for those 16 years of age and up, will begin at 4 p.m. The after party will begin at 5 p.m. at Boca located at 358 N. Park Ave. Free bike valet service will be available for secure bike parking from 3:30 to 8 p.m.

Investing in road improvements such as bicycle lanes, routes, off-road trails and parking to enable safe access for all users are all ways the city encourages bicycling. The Group Bike Ride & Gathering is an additional way to encourage and promote alternate forms of transportation. Free Sunrail service to be offered during Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival weekend

On Feb. 23, the City of Winter Park Community Redevelopment Agency approved the expenditure of funds to provide SunRail train service during the Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival Saturday, March 21, and Sunday, March 22, 2015, operating from approximately 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

SunRail will operate its normal ticketed schedule on Friday, March 20. However, free train service will be offered on Saturday and Sunday as a result of the CRA approval and generous support from the following funding partners:

• Florida Hospital

• Winter Park Community Redevelopment Agency

• Winter Park Chamber of Commerce

• The Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival

Please note – Saturday, March 21, and Sunday, March 22, departing times:

• Last train leaving Winter Park heads northbound at 4:41 p.m.

• Last train leaving Winter Park heads southbound at 3:36 p.m.

Free SunRail parking will be available at the following stations along the corridor: Sand Lake Road, Maitland, Altamonte Springs, Longwood, Lake Mary, Sanford and DeBary.
