Jan. 12 City Commission meeting

There will be a City Commission meeting Monday, Jan. 12, at 3:30 p.m., in City Hall Commission Chambers located at 401 S. Park Ave. For the most up-to-date agenda, please visit cityofwinterpark.org under What’s New. Below are a few topics of interest:

• Approve the minutes for Dec. 8, 2014.

• Approve the execution of the following two agency grant agreements for improvements to the Mead Grove Wetlands:

– Florida Department of Environmental Protection funding agreement

– Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation funding agreement

• Approve purchase order to Lou Bachrodt Freightliner for a 2015 Freightliner 18-yard dump truck.

• Approve the revision to the City of Winter Park Billing Adjustments Tariff Sheet as relates to the calculation of the fuel adjustment factor (electric).

This public hearing must be held after 5 p.m.

• Request of the Avis Budget Group, Inc.:

o First reading of the ordinance amending Chapter 58, Land Development Code, Article III, Zoning, Section 58-74 Commercial District to provide for car rental agencies as a permitted use within a Commercial Zoning District.

o First reading of the ordinance amending Chapter 58, Land Development Code, Article III, Zoning, Section 58-74 Commercial District to provide for car rental agencies as a conditional use within a Commercial Zoning District.

• Requests of Sentio Investments, LLC – Applicant tabled to Feb. 23 Commission meeting.

Dinner on the Avenue sold out!

The City of Winter Park’s 14th Annual Dinner on the Avenue scheduled for Saturday, April 11, 2015, is officially SOLD OUT. After receiving an overwhelming response, 160 tables sold out in just over an hour after going on sale at 8 a.m. Over 1,200 patrons will experience the fun and excitement of this annual event which has become Winter Park’s social event of the year.

Patrons will gather together with friends, family, co-workers and neighbors to dine under the stars on beautiful Park Avenue from 6 to 10 p.m. Only the table, white linen tablecloth and chairs are provided - everything else is up to the diners.

Creativity is encouraged and each group is challenged to develop its own unique look and individual décor. Awards will be presented to winners in various categories including most colorful, most elegant, most original, best TV/movie-themed and honorable mentions. The judging will begin at 7 p.m. sharp, and awards will be presented once the judges have decided on the winners.

Last weekend to ice skate!

The last day to skate at the city’s “Winter in the Park” ice skating rink is Sunday, Jan. 11. If you haven’t already taken a spin on the ice, there’s only a few days left. Bring your friends and family to experience some cool fun before it’s all over. Winter Park Mayor Kenneth Bradley’s final State of the City Address

On Friday, Jan. 16, the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce and City of Winter Park will host the Annual State of the City luncheon presented by Waste Pro®. The event will be held at The Alfond Inn at Rollins beginning at 11:30 a.m. and will feature Mayor Kenneth W. Bradley’s final State of the City address, “The Best is Yet to Come.” In addition to the Mayor’s address, the luncheon will feature the City of Winter Park Employee of the Year presentations.

SAVE THE DATE: Unity Heritage Festival

The City of Winter Park is proud to present the 13th Annual Unity Heritage Festival Sunday, Jan. 18, and Monday, Jan. 19. The annual community festival will promote family history and raise funds for the Educational Fulfillment Fund for local economically disadvantaged youth. The festival begins Sunday, Jan. 18, in Shady Park at Hannibal Square located at the intersection of Pennsylvania and New England avenues, from 1 to 5 p.m. Patrons are also encouraged to visit the Hannibal Square Heritage Center just across the street from Shady Park. The center pays tribute to the past, present and future contributions of Winter Park’s historic African-American community.

The heritage festival continues in Shady Park on Martin Luther King, Jr., Day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Join Winter Park city officials at 10 a.m. for a special Martin Luther King, Jr., symbolic program, including the Feature Family Presentation. Exciting events and activities will continue throughout the day including food and music.
