“Art in Chambers” exhibition featuring Blair Sligar

The city’s Public Art Advisory Board announces the final weeks of the current “Art in Chambers” exhibition horse magic featuring sculptures, paintings and prints by Blair Sligar, who will be introduced at the City Commission meeting on Monday, Dec. 9, at 3:30 p.m. Horse magic will be open for public viewing from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, except for holidays, through Tuesday, Jan. 7. The exhibition features sculptures with a rococo-like intricacy and extravagance that showcase the materials and structure, playful and dark prints with anthropomorphic animals, and paintings that demonstrate his interest in mythologies and canons.

Artist Blair Sligar is a designer and owner of Hog Eat Hog, a design-build workshop based in Winter Park that specializes in using locally milled and salvaged materials to create unique art installations, furniture and home goods. Hog Eat Hog uses a mix of traditional and modern woodworking techniques while sticking to old-time, hand-rubbed finishing recipes. Sligar is a featured designer at West Elm® and his company’s work is in many Winter Park establishments including the Fiction building, Cask & Larder, Winter Park Fish Co., Full Sail University and Rifle Paper Co.

“Art in Chambers,” a project of the Winter Park Public Art Advisory Board, showcases works by local artists or works borrowed from local museums. “Art in Chambers” enlivens Winter Park’s public rooms and exposes residents and visitors to art, highlights the importance the city places on art and culture, provides city support to local artists and studios, and creates opportunities to educate the populace on the value of art and its place in a meaningful life.
