Honoring Winter Park Heroes

On Friday, Nov. 9, at 10 a.m., the city of Winter Park will be presenting its second annual Veterans Day Celebration. This event will be held in honor of all of the veterans in Winter Park at the Winter Park Community Center Ruby Ball Amphitheater located at 721 W. New England Ave.

If you have served in any military campaign or military branch in honor of our nation’s freedom, please make plans to attend.

Beginning at 9:30 a.m., the VFW Post 2093 Community Band will be entertaining guests as they visit with organizations and services that offer resources specifically for veteran needs. At 10 a.m., the official program will begin with musical tributes, anecdotal speakers and recognition of veterans according to the various military branches and campaigns served. City Commission work session

There will be a City Commission work session Monday, Nov. 12, at 2 p.m. in City Hall Commission Chambers prior to the regular City Commission meeting. The water and sewer rate study and, time permitting, electric utility underground policies, will be discussed at this work session. The meeting is open to the public, however, no public comment will be taken.

Approve the minutes of Oct. 22.

Approve various purchases, contracts and formal solicitations (a complete listing can be found at cityofwinterpark.org/ccpackets)

Approve Radio Disney’s “NBT” (Next Big Thing) On Tour Concert event in Central Park Sept. 21, 2013.

Approve the Winter Park Sports Hall of Fame request to be placed on the “City Annual Events” list.

Award utility services electronic bill presentment and payment to Payment Service Network Inc. and authorize the mayor to execute the contract.

Approve the interlocal agreement with the cities of Altamonte Springs and Maitland for construction and cost sharing of sewer utility improvements associated with the Gateway Drive Extension Project.

Public Hearings

Request of the city of Winter Park:

First reading of the ordinance to amend tree removal compensation requirements, use of the Tree Replacement Fund, provide exemption from requiring a tree removal permit, and establish enforcement procedure for removing hazardous trees.

Appeal the Winter Park Historic Preservation Commission decision regarding case of Certificate of Review; request for alterations and an addition property located at 1005 Lakeview Drive.

Ravaudage - Home Acres annexation

Second reading of the ordinance annexing the 51+/- acres of Ravaudage or Home Acres generally bounded by Bennett, Monroe and Orlando Avenues and Lee Road

Interlocal agreement to annex 1211 and 1101 Lewis Drive

First reading of the ordinance annexing the property at 600 Lee Road and that portion of Interstate 4 contiguous to the property within the city at 2684 Lee Road.

Requests of Wawa:

Second readings of the ordinances to partially vacate and abandon the easement located at 901 and 911 N. Orlando Ave.

Requests of Heartwood 20, LLC:

Second readings of the ordinances to amend sections of the Land Development Code and Comprehensive Plan to increase the residential density for and limited to the property at 444 W. New England Ave.

“Operation Gratitude” ending soon

It’s not too late to donate to Operation Gratitude, a program designed to collect candy and gifts for American service men and women who are currently deployed in the remote regions of Afghanistan and other hostile regions of the world. Donations are accepted until Saturday, Nov. 10, at any of the following Winter Park locations:

Station 61 > 343 W. Canton Ave.

Station 62 > 300 S. Lakemont Ave.

Station 64 > 1439 Howell Branch Road

City Hall > 401 S. Park Ave.

Winter Park Public Library > 460 E. New England Ave.

Items will also be collected at the city’s second annual “Veterans Day Celebration” Friday, November 9.

CoffeeTalk featuring Commissioner McMacken

Please join Commissioner Tom McMacken for a cup of coffee Thursday, Nov. 15, from 8 to 9 a.m. at the Winter Park Welcome Center, located at 151 W. Lyman Ave., for his annual CoffeeTalk gathering. This is the city’s seventh year in holding these annual CoffeeTalk sessions for residents that have a latte on their minds or some beans to grind.

This is your opportunity to talk with Commissioner McMacken in an informal environment and ask him any questions related to city business. Special thanks to Palmano’s Café, Coffee & Wine Bar for donating the coffee.
