FEB 8 CITY COMMISSION MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

The City Commission met on Feb. 8 at 3:30 p.m. in City Hall Commission Chambers. Below are a few highlights of the major decisions that were made:

MAYOR'S REPORT:

The Winter Park Police Department was recognized by the City Commission on their successful and impressive reaccreditation designation and process.

The UPPCC Agency Certification Award for 2009 was presented by the Purchasing Manager to the city.

A proclamation regarding the 2010 General and Referendum Election was read and approved.

NON-ACTION ITEMS:

An update was provided by city staff on the following items:

-Winter Park OUTREACH Emergency Alerting Network

-Financial report for FY 2010

-Fairbanks Avenue

-Economic incentive package

-The mayor gave a brief report of the city's recent legislative meetings in Washington, D.C.

ACTION ITEMS REQUIRING DISCUSSION:

-The Winter Park Code of Ethics was tabled for further discussion.

-The request for additional funding for the Winter Park Historical Association was denied.

PUBLIC HEARINGS:

-The second reading of the ordinance authorizing the issuance by the Winter Park Community Redevelopment Agency of not exceeding $8.1 million Redevelopment Revenue Bonds, Series 2010, was approved.

-The second reading of the ordinance regarding Land Development Code revisions was tabled until the Monday, Feb. 22, City Commission meeting.

-The first reading of the ordinance amending Section 58-66 "R-1AA and R-1A Districts," Section 58-70 "PURD District," Section 58-82 "General Provisions," and Section 58-92 "Definitions," so as to enact new single family and accessory building regulations and definitions was approved.

-The resolution encouraging the State Legislature to ban texting while driving was approved.

2010 GENERAL AND REFERENDUM ELECTION

Feb. 22: Early voting at the Supervisor of Elections Office, 119 W. Kaley St., Orlando.

March 3: Last day to request an Absentee Ballot

March 9: Election Day

UPCOMING CANDIDATE FORUMS

-Chamber of Commerce Candidate Forum: Friday, Feb. 19, from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and the Park Avenue Area Association Commissioner's Debate: Wednesday, Feb. 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Both will take place at the Chamber of Commerce Welcome Center, 151 W. DON'T FORGET TO RECYCLE YOUR OLD PHONE BOOKS

Recycle phone books curbside on regularly scheduled recycle day, in front of the Keep Winter Park Beautiful office in the Winter Park Parks & Recreation Department, 401 S. Park Ave. or at either of the following fire-rescue stations: Station 61 at 343 W. Canton Ave. or Station 62 at 300 S. Lakemont Ave.

POLICE EXPLORERS GO ABOVE AND BEYOND

The Winter Park Police Explorer Post 112 collected 187 items of food for the Second Harvest Food Bank, three local families in need, and the Margaret Square food bank. Additionally, the Women and Children's Shelter at the Salvation Army accepted 34 boxes of clothing and toys collected by the post. The members of Post 112 are true examples of good citizens and good Samaritans.
