AUG 23 CITY COMMISSION MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

The City Commission met on Aug. 23 at 3:30 p.m. in City Hall Commission Chambers. Below are a few highlights of the major decisions that were made:

MAYOR'S REPORT:

The following awards were presented to the City Commission showcasing some of the city's most recent unique and innovative projects and achievements: Keep Winter Park Beautiful awards, Purchasing Division Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award, IT Division 2010 Florida Local Government Information Systems Association Technology Achievement Award and the Winter Park Police Department's first place in the Champion's Class in Highway Safety in the Florida Law Enforcement Challenge.

CITY ATTORNEY'S REPORT:

The Canin Associates Settlement Agreement was approved with an amendment.

The commuter rail agreement was approved to be sent to Orange County with the addition of language related to adverse impacts.

CONSENT AGENDA:

The minutes of Aug. 9 City Commission meeting were approved with modifications.

The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) patient transport fee adjustment was approved.

The Golf ProShop renovations agenda item was tabled.

ACTION ITEMS REQUIRING DISCUSSION:

PlaceMakers was approved to continue working on Fairbanks Avenue design guidelines with contingencies.

A presentation was given regarding Fleet Peeples Park one-year review and the Commission directed staff to bring forward a proposed fee structure for Fleet Peeples Park for their consideration.

The Commission directed staff to cut an additional $1 million from the proposed budget. A workshop to review the recommendations will be scheduled on a future date.

PUBLIC HEARINGS:

The resolution designating 1710 Westchester Ave. as a historic resource on the Winter Park Register of Historic Places was approved.

The Conditional Use request of Panera Bread to construct a new restaurant with a drive-thru lane at 2516 Aloma Ave. was approved.

The Conditional Use extension request of Mr. Moye regarding the property at 125 S. Interlachen Ave. - Ye Ole Bric Condos - was approved for an additional two years.

SHOWCASE YOUR BUSINESS TO OVER 45,000 PEOPLE

Become a "Dasher Board Sponsor" for "Winter in the Park" and advertise to an audience of approximately 45,000 people for eight straight weeks during the busiest shopping season of the year. The event is the city's holiday ice skating rink in Central Park West Meadow in downtown Winter Park, which runs Saturday, Nov. 13 through Sunday, Jan. 9. Please call 407-599-3428 for more details.

FLU SHOT FRIDAYS

The Winter Park Fire-Rescue Department will be holding "Flu Shot Fridays." For those insured primarily with Medicare Part B, there is no charge for a flu shot. All others will be charged $25 for the flu shot.

"Flu Shot Fridays" will take place on the following dates at the following location:

Friday, Sept. 3 thru November

Station 62, 300 S. Lakemont Ave.

9 a.m. to noon

Flu shots will also be given on Saturdays at the Winter Park Farmers' Market during the month of September:

Saturday, Sept. 4 to Saturday, Sept. 24

Winter Park Farmers' Market, 200 W. New England Ave.

9 a.m. to noon

On the occasion of Rollins' 125th Anniversary, and as a way to honor the historic relationship with the college, the inaugural Winter Park-Rollins Community Recognition Awards have been developed. The purpose is to annually recognize the outstanding individual efforts that sustain and nourish the "town-gown" partnership.
