Winter Park Wildcats break losing streak

East River (2-5) struck first, but Winter Park (2-5) struck back again and again in their 27-7 win Oct. 18. Now the Wildcats are looking for gridiron redemption after a midseason skid that lasted four losses.

And they may be looking for more support from quarterback Asiantii Woulard’s right arm after his performance against the Falcons. Woulard would deliver with 251 yards in the air, including three touchdown passes to lead his team to victory.

Gabe McClary raced 69 yards after a reception to take the lead over East River in the second quarter, and the Wildcats didn’t look back.

The win is the Wildcats’ first since Sept. 7, when they beat Edgewater 26-13 in their only other win of the season.

They’ll play host to a Colonial team (2-6) that’s still struggling to complete its first non-losing season since 2006. The Grenadiers won their first two games of this season and have since gone on a six-game skid, including a 63-20 trouncing by Timber Creek on Oct. 18.

The Grenadiers have also found more offense in their last two games than they had all season. They scored 20 points on three touchdowns in just the second quarter against Timber Creek, leveraging a run-heavy offense.

The Wildcats will host that game, kicking off at 7:30 p.m. Thursday night.

Edgewater

Quarterback J.B. Woodman threw for one of the greatest games of his career, but it wasn’t enough for Edgewater (2-5) to edge out the Oviedo Lions (6-1), who won by the margin of a single missed extra point, 20-19, on Oct. 18.

The Eagles let the Lions on the board first, but came back to trade scores in the first half before eventually narrowing the gap thanks to Woodman’s 205 yards passing in the game. He found Tim Miller five times for 79 yards in the game, and hooked up with Keith Dilley for another 45 in the air. David Green’s rushing touchdown made it close, but several missed goal line scoring attempts and a field goal that fell short ended the Eagles’ chances.

The Eagles will host Apopka (5-2) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The Blue Darters are coming off a 47-28 win over West Orange, their narrowest win so far this season.
