For the sixth straight week the zero remains in the Winter Park football losses column, and the W’s grew one bigger. Crossing through midseason the Wildcats have their best start in recent memory, long having distanced themselves from lackluster recent seasons.

The 34-29 win over Timber Creek on Oct. 4 helped keep that momentum, beating a Wolves team that had won three straight games heading into their matchup. The simple box score makes the game seem like it was close, which it wasn’t after the Wildcats leapt out to a 21-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and then held on from there.

An unusual offensive attack may have helped confuse a confident Wolves squad. Winter Park’s Jacques Patrick played as a running back for much of the game, racing for 203 yards on 24 carries, and passing for 36 yards in the process. He was even a receiver in the game at one point, catching a pass in the end zone for one of his two two-point conversions in the game. He also returned kickoffs for 48 yards. Stuckey Mosley added another 97 yards in the air.

The Wildcats will be off for a week before taking on the Hagerty Huskies. The bad news is they’ll do it on the road. The good news is the Huskies are 1-4. That kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 18.

The Eagles have a streak of their own with six straight losses after a 24-14 loss to Leesburg. The loss to the 5-1 Yellowjackets was the first for the Eagles all year that didn’t come by a margin of a touchdown or less. The Eagles (0-6) had attempted a comeback in the game, pulling off two touchdowns and a two-point conversion in the second half, but fell short.

They’ll travel to Timber Creek for a 7 p.m. Oct. 11 showdown. The Wolves are 3-2 this season.
