JUNE 8

"Living with Alzheimer's for Caregivers" will provide answers to questions that people may have when caring for someone who is in the early or middle stages of dementia. This free event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 8 at St. Luke's United Methodist Church.

JUNE 15

Attend the elder abuse education and prevention symposium on June 15 at One Senior Place, 715 Douglas Ave., in Altamonte Springs. There are three seminars: Alzheimer's disease at 9 a.m., a medical look at behavioral problems at 10 a.m. and identify theft at 11 a.m.

As part of the Counsel for Caregivers Seminar Series, Alison Issen, MS, RN, LMHC - Patient and Family Counseling at MD Anderson Center, Orlando, presents "When mama ain't happy.” Presentations are at 10:30 a.m. on June 12 at West Oaks Library, 1821 E. Silver Star Road, Ocoee, and at 12:10 p.m. on June 21 at the downtown Orlando Library, 101 E. Central Blvd., Third Floor, Albertson Room, Orlando. Are you interested in art, history, health and entertainment? Then join us on the first and third Tuesday of every month (June 19 this month) at 1 p.m. for our Senior Speaker Series! Each month we will cover a broad range of topics that everyone will enjoy.

Canine Companions for Independence will be here on June 19 to speak about their amazing program. Volunteer puppy raiser Jim Seibert will talk about his role in this program and you will be able to meet one of the puppies. Refreshments will be served.

Do you like to knit or crochet? Do you like making new friends and sharing your favorite patterns? Then join our new Knit & Crochet group at 10 a.m. every Monday and Friday in June. Bring your current project and have some fun!

The next AARP Driver Safety program class will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 13. Certificate of completion of the course is good for a possible car insurance discount that is renewable every three years. Cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. The Maitland Senior Center presents a program for elders on the second Friday of the month (June 8 and July 13) that is staffed by counselors from S.H.I.N.E. (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders). The program provides free unbiased counseling about Medicare, Medigap, HMOs, Medicaid, prescriptions drug plans and long term care.
