One dead in Ocoee following incident at Planet Fitness

A Winter Garden woman is dead following an incident that occurred around 7:30 a.m. Friday, March 1, at the Planet Fitness in Ocoee.

The victim, who has been identified as Jessica L. Steigelman, was gravely injured and succumbed to the injuries at a local area hospital.

Officers from the Ocoee Police Department responded at 7:30 a.m. to the Planet Fitness located at 10908 W. Colonial Drive, Ocoee.

Upon arrival, police said they found an unresponsive woman lying on the ground and a man being held by two bystanders. 

The man has since been identified as 55-year-old Shannon W. King. He is the prime suspect in this crime, Ocoee PD officials said.

King is being held at the Orange County jail. He is being charged with first degree murder with a deadly weapon. 

Police have not yet determined what item was used to stab Steigelman. 

Lt. Mireya Iannuzzi believes the incident was not a random act and may have been domestic in nature. 

This is an active and ongoing homicide investigation.
