14-year-old arrested for alleged murder in Lake County

Detectives from the Lake County Sheriff's Office have been investigating the murder of Timothy Allen West, 39. in the city of Mascotte.

According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, West was shot and killed Sunday, Feb. 10, at 23 S. Carol Avenue in Mascotte at approximately 8:30 p.m., and detectives believe the murder was the result of a drug deal gone wrong.

The murder suspect, Mar'quez McFarland, 14, was arrested at Southwest Middle School in Orlando on Thursday, Feb. 28 by the US Marshall's Fugitive Task Force and the Orange County Sheriff's Office Juvenile Arrest Unit, LSCO said.

McFarland has since been turned over to the Division of Juvenile Justice.
